That would be all vehicles. Ford still sells the most trucks and the Exploder is the #1 selling SUV at some where well over a half million a year. 4Runners are probably a quarter mil or even less. Ford still rules truck sales and their F series sells nealy a million a year.
Hopefully Toyota will take another chunk out of that with the next Tundra.
 
I kind of like that the sales numbers aren't crazy high. I like having a more unique vehicle on the road.

Downside to that is sagging sales could cause the demise of a specific model.

It's still Toyota's #2 SUV in sales.
 
I really hope the 4Runner never approaches Explorer sales numbers, I have no problem with Toyota outselling Ford or GM but with multiple vehicles;):

The Explorer just seems like everyone has it and it has no real identity, everyone I know well not everyone, who has a 4Runner always gets excited to talk about it;):
 
The 3rd generation 4Runner was the best selling SUV in the Toyota line up in the US till 2001. Then the Highlander came and it has been the best selling SUV for Toyota. That is if you consider the Highlander a SUV. At least in the US, more customers buy mid size SUV's than smaller SUV's.

The Big 3 have the fleet, government, and rental sales. If Toyota, Honda, and Nissan pursued those markets aggressively, the big 3 would be d-u-n done.

Keeping in mind that in 2004 U.S. & Japan sales represented 60% of total sales & the U.S. imports 40% of all Toyota exports.

I stand corrected, based on the data available (up to 2006 on the Explorer + up to 2004 for the Rav4) the Explorer has sold 5.5 million SUVs since 1990, which would make it the best selling SUV. I think when it is all said and done the Rav4 will be close and maybe better. Ford and GM are in FREEFALL!

My work used to have Camry's for fleet cars, heck you could even choose from 3-4 types, now we only have Dodge Magnums. I got stuck with one.
