2005 v6 4runner 4WD only 4mm brake pad left

i went oil change and the dealership reminded me there's only 4mm brake pad left. this is a 2005 v6 4wd and i put a lot of miles on it since job change last Sept. it's nearly 50,000 miles odo now. mostly highway and i am not an aggressive driver. does it sound typical what's left of my brake pad? i was told new pads are around 10mm thick.

should i get the pads replaced in another 10k or 20k miles? i don't want to ruin the disc or caliper.

with gas price above $3.60/gal, i've been thinking about getting a Prius hybrid. I put about 90 miles round trip to work and it's hurting my wallet. the on board computer shows i get around 19.3 mpg but i suspect the real mileage's < 19mpg. i feel i still need the runner as it's safer in winter here in the northeast and i've a steep driveway.

Brake pads and gas mileage

4mm is like just under 1/4 inch (I think - I didnt bother to look it up) so youve got about 40% of the pad left, I would happily run another 10,000 miles on it, or maybe change at your next oil change.

Re gas milage, the T4R gets great gas milage for what it is. Run your tires at the right pressure, or a tad high and keep your speed to say 65 or 70 at most. I also have V6 and my run to work and home is 154 miles, I average (yesterday) 20.6 mpg (based on my math, not the onboad computer)

How much does a prius cost, 15-20 thousand? Even if I got twice the mileage, I'd only save about 30-35$ a week.

That's over 8 years of gas saving to break even. By then the batteries on the prius will be shot and I'd need to throw them away (they are super toxic and horrible for the environment).

Best gas saver: A $2000 honda civic. 30-35 mpg all day and almost nothing to buy used.

Pads are cheap enough and easy enough to put on yourself if you like to do that kinda stuff.. good excuse to hang in the garage and drink a few beers !!!!
I m getting 21 mpg all the time city and about 19-20 on hiway ...I have 3" lift and run 165/75/16bfg tires ....The catch... Im the guy who when the light turns green barely goes I baby the throttle ... yes Im the guy in front of you who drives like an old man ..!!! but hey it makes a differance .. my wife drives it and only get 270 miles to a tank I get 350 !! ++ and only go 60-65 on hiway

So thats how i do it !!!!
