2005 V6 limited 4wd poor acceleration?

This just started about 1000 miles after putting the STP complete fuel injector cleaner in. I have 72,000 miles and have used the Gumout fuel injector cleaner in the past, but never the STP "complete" cleaner. Could it be that it harmed the vehicle or is it something else?

All maintenance has been completed on the vehicle per the factory recommendations and owner’s manual. It just seems odd that this is happening after the STP cleaner I placed in it about 1000 miles ago. Maybe I got bad regular gas at a place? It's almost like the OD is taking over too soon or the vehicle is stuck between two gears trying to make its mind up on which one to use. When I press the pedal to the floor it goes, but one day it even had problems there and took about 5 seconds to finally figure out what it wanted to do so I could get up the hill on to the hwy. It seems like it's mostly when I'm in low RPM's (Stopped and then pressing on the pedal to go slowly, up the ramp to the hwy, etc). It's idling okay for the most part. There have been a few times (very few) where it felt like it was going to cut off when sitting still, but it quickly made its mind up and fixed it.

Anyone else had this issue?

Are you getting a check engine light or any other indications that something is wrong (other than the sluggish acceleration)?

I'm not. No lights on the dash at all, no black smoke out the tailpipe either. I was looking at it tonight and I was going 55mph and had about a little less then 2000 RPM and it was sluggish (not towing anything). It's like it was caught in between two gears and the OD wanted to take control but it was just not there in RPM and speed. Switching out of OD solved the issue this time around.
 
Hmmm.... I dunno. Maybe you're actually having a transmission problem? Have you noticed anything unusual about the way the trans has been shifting recently?
 
Some joker insisted on doing this to my car once. It ended up gumming up the 02 sensor. I wasn't throwing any codes either. I ended up pulling the 02 and it was all fouled. I replaced it, reset the computer, and voila.

It wasn't a 4Runner though. You might want to just pull the negative terminal on the battery and reset the computer and see if it adjusts and things are different. It's worth a try and it's free right?
 
I would suggest pulling the MAF sensor and cleaning it. It could be as simple as that, and not more costly O2 sensors or worse.


I might also check the fuel filter.......or at least my record of changing it.

Don't put any of that crap in your vehicles ever. They are toxic to sensors and injectors. I'd drive the tank to close to empty and fill it up a few times and see if it comes back to life.

There are safe additives that do not cause any problems with sensor or injectors. The Toyota dealer I used to work at puts the BG brand in every car they service (and of course add the cost on to the bill).

Most of the BG additives are good.

Ever dropped the oil pan on a motor with 100K+ miles that had a BG engine treatment done for the first time? You can usually scoop the carbon deposits out by the handful. If you aren't careful, the carbon will clog the oil pick up.

Yup, just a brand of products. It's actually approved by Toyota for use in their vehicles, so many Toyota dealerships use it. If I remember correctly, it's actually the ONLY additive approved by Toyota Motor Corp.
