2005 V6 Towing question

I have a 2005 SR5 V6 4x4. How efficiently can I tow a 2,400 lb boat (total weight with trailer and fuel around 4,000 lbs)

I would mainly be driving on flat roads but sometimes go to Mammoth which has one steep incline and is at about 7,000 ft peak altitude.

I am considering buying an 18 ft boat.

Should be no problem, length and weight are well within the V6 4Runner's capabilities/rating. You'll need a brake controller.

Ive pulled almost the same setup, 19ft boat approx 4000lbs through some smaller hills in Southern MO. You can def. feel it, but I always felt i had plenty of power. I did not have a brake controller, I do have a sway bar though. Just allow plenty of time to stop.

A lot of boat trailers don't have electric brakes, thus a brake controller is useless.

I have a 20ft all wooden Chris Craft that I tow with my V8 Sport, but my best friend has a 2004 Limited 4WD V6 that tows it with no problems at all.

You guys reccomend I get a weight distrubuting hitch? or is the standard weight carrying hitch sufficient?

As long as you stay under 5000lbs you are good with what you have.

It can't hurt to install an external trans cooler! Cheap insurance.

No problem at all with that rig. I tow 4200 lbs about 10-12 times per year (once already this year) and never had an issue ('04 SR5 V6). Like Koz mentioned, the tranny cooler is a little extra insurance (not necessary but nice to have). I have on on my rig and I never worry about the tranny overheating going through traffic or over a small mountain pass.
