Help a newbie out! I'm looking to get my first 4Runner and my local dealer has a great deal on a low-miles 2005, but it's a V8. Most of my driving is on paved roads, 70/30 highway/town and I was wondering what kind of mileage you all are getting in that kind of driving. BTW, I don't mud or tow so the extra power excites the kid in me but not the adult.

Winter/cold weather 80% city 20% rural
15-16.5 running winter blended fuel and extended idle. Hiway 18-21
Summer/warm weather 80% city 20% rural 17.5 consistently, running summer blended fuel . Hiway 18-22 .
The V8 is hard for me to let go of with this kind of milage . It does bring out the kid in me , but also the crazy adult
. I'm not sure if I would be quite a happy with a V6 , but they are pretty powerful and think I would adapt and may even grow to love it like I do the v8. Pro's and con's to both of them.

I have been getting about 14.5 miles per US gallon in city traffic very consistently. My daily trip is about 10 miles one way. I would say I am an average driver, not jackrabbitting (every time) but not getting "pushed" from behind either.
On the highway I normally get about 21 on a 300 mile journey. The best I ever got was just over 26 with a strong and sustained tailwind.
I don't trust the trip computer on board. I always try to fill the tank to the same level every time and keep track of my mileage and fuel consumption in a spreadsheet.
I like it better when I use imperial gallons, this turns into over 26 MPG on the highway (and the best ever being over 31) and 17 in the city. At least it makes me feel better, briefly. But then I didn't buy the T4R for purely fuel efficient daily commuting reasons, but more for other factors such as safe and guaranteed commuting in comfort with the ability to go off-road for hunting and hiking as well as haul a butt-load of useless crap to the lake (I swear, having too much room is BAD, there is stuff that I am directed to take that doesn't even get unpacked!) But hey, I get to drive a T4R. Nuff said.
