2005 v8 runner ATF question

Okay I happen to have the sealed transmission version of these cars, does the tranny fluid require to be changed? It's got about 130k miles on it right now and I don't know if it's ever been changed or not. Can I just drain and refill with new fluid from toyota dealer? Or drop the pan and clean up what I can and refill? Or this thing has to be flushed??

Personally, I'd drain the pan, drop the pan and clean out the filter then add Toyota ATF.

Ya that's what I'm thinking of doing, but toyota says the freakin fluid has to be a certain temperature before it can be put in the tranny?? Any ideas?? I'm thinking its bull$@$$ but what do I know? Lol

Close, the transmission fluid needs be a certain temperature while in the vehicle to properly check the fluid level.

I'm not sure on the 4th gens but the 3rd gens have both a hot and cold level.

That's because you have a Dip Stick. Almost all of Toyota's WS transmissions do not have dipstick and have a specialized process to check the fluid using a calibrated tube in the oil pan. Part of the process is having the fluid at a certain temperature range.

I suppose, as long as you take into account the volume difference in the pump tube used to fill it?

Yep, it works well.

You should know that checking fluid level is not hard, though. If you happen to get messed up keeping track of the exchange, make note of the thread below. You can use the simplified procedure or use the links inside (courtesy of [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION]) to do it the official way.
