I don't want to beat a dead horse but... I am looking for information on the air filter on my 2006 4Runner sport w/ 4.7. I have been reading and there is various opinions but no definitive convolution.
1. Does TRD make an air filter system for my 4Runner?
2. If not, what is the best dry air filter to use?
I purchased this 4 Runner about a month ago. It has around 120k miles on it. I wanted to clean a few things up. The air cleaner looks clean, but the after filter? in the bottom of the top section of the housing was dirty. The owner obviously didn't change the filter that often. I tried to clean this attached filter, but couldn't tell if I was successful, so I drilled out the 6 plastic pins and removed it. I then cleaned the filter. It was dirty. I can plastic weld it back. What does this filter do as it seems to have small beads in it and looks like it could be restrictive. The inside of the tube running to the engine is like new, so it must do something. Any clues? When this filter wares out, does Toyota expect you to buy the entire half of the air box?
