2006 4runner v6 oil change interval

my 06 has 44,500 miles on it and i always put in m1 5w30 synthetic with fram extended performance filter. is it ok if i change the oil every 7,000 miles? should it be changed sooner? or can i prolong oil change intervals? the temp here year round is usually between 60 and 88 degrees, not sure if that makes a difference.

i think you'll be fine. but if you are still under toyota warranty, you might want to have it done per their 5k miles requirement just to have one less thing to worry about.

There has been a lot of discussion on this among numerous communities running this engine. With a good synthetic and any decent filter 7k doesn't seem like much of an issue; used oil analysis confirm this in fact. While I think we can all agree that the 3k mile "rule" is erroneous with todays oils, I like 5k simply because it is very easy to remember and conforms to extended warranty criteria that many, including myself, must abide by if the full warranty is to be honored. Today in fact, for the 30k service, I switched everything over to synthetic (engine, both diffs, and transfer case) and hope to not have to deal with that MESS again for another 60k at least (with the exception of course being engine oil). I will continue to run 5k simply for the convenience of having a very easy to remember service interval and the peace of mind of knowing that it falls well within current oil performance standards, including Toyota's.

couldn't agree with you more! I did the same thing at 30k miles and hope not to deal with it for awhile. My car is no longer a daily driver so it might take awhile before i have to do it again.

Oil change is cheap and takes about 30 minutes max. Just do it every 5000 and don't stress about it.

10k is fine with syn. You don't have to worry about dealership because you're not going to have an engine failure related to oil as long as you keep levels checked. They can't deny a warranty claim for anything unless they can prove that it is a direct result of the oil change interval. Not to mention all you have to do is make a record showing you did it yourself every 5k.
