I just recently purchased a new 2006 Sport edition 4wd 4runner 2 days ago. The 4runner has the JBL synthesis upgrade stereo which is the 6 CD/Mp3/wma changer w/ 10 JBL speakers. My question is I haggled with the dealership and they agreed to install an OEM factory navigation that they will install in 3 days. Will I still be able to use my 6disc mp3 changer that is installed presently or will Toyota remove it completely? Also should I expect any problems with the Navigation unit with the JBL 10 speaker system? Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie.

David, Thanks for the reply. I thought I read somewhere that I may have problems with the voice input and that only 8 of the 10 speakers will work when the factory navigation is installed.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has the synthesis jbl package that has gotten the nav upgrade and if you are happy with the factory nav unit, if there were any problems with the voice input or with the sound from the 10 speakers. Thanks

This may be a little late, but I have a '06 Limited 4Runner that started with a OEM JBL 6 Disc and Now has a OEM 5th Gen Nav HU. This has a 4 disc changer and supports MP3/WMA. Also, all 10 speakers work since they are driven by the AMP located in the rear right quarter panel. This AMP does not need to changed. The Voice Activation is a different story and will require a mic to be installed and additional wires to drive the Driver's door speaker for Voice. Additionally, the right steering switch pod is needed for both bluetooth and voice activation. I am surprised a dealership would agree to this since it is truly a factory installed option and not just plug and play. Also, what about the rearview camera? Let us know if you went through this and how it turned out. Thanks.

By the way, the 5th Gen OEM Nav units are totally sweet and worth the effort to install.

Sounds like you must have a good deal going on with the dealer ... do you mind if I ask how much is the unit and what they are charging to install it? I also have a 06' with a ten speaker system . I did not know you could install a nav. after the fact of purchasing the 4 runner . I bought a demo so I got it loaded but without the nav. very interested!!!!! Good Luck!!!!

I purchased the 06' sports 4runner 4x4 for the invoice price of $31,500 (includes sun roof, synthesis JBL, rear spoiler, 120v plug) and we negotiated the dealer to add leather seats, navigation/DVD to the front, and to have 2 rear dvd players in each head rest for $5,500. They are going to send the 4runner to a dealer only installer that apparently does all the work on BMWs/Lexus/Toyota. The dealer did inform me that they use the Eclipse AVN50D Nav unit in order to use the steering wheel controls and to allow use of all 10 speakers.
Probably not the best deal in the world but I know with my hectic work schedule if I don't do the upgrades now I probably won't in the future.

That's interesting, I have a 2003 limited with JBL ten speaker system in which I installed a 2003 solara nav and it uses all 10 speakers and steering wheel controls with blue tooth, voice commands, and voice guidance out of left speaker. I think it all depends on which amp you use. I think this one is out of a Sienna with 2 extra wires run to the amp.
