2006 DVD Navigation system; help

My girlfriend just got her new 06 Forerunner with the 6 disc in dash cd, she wanted the nav system but couldn't locate any vehicles in the color she wanted so she got the 6 disc with the intent to have the dealer swap out the 6 disc with the factory nav system upon delivery to the dealer.
Now she is concerned because a dealership employee has told her that since the dvd nav system only has one slot in dash she will not be able to listen to cd's while using the nav system.

Is this BS or what? Doesn't the nav system have a seperate dvd player to run the nav system independent of the in dash single disc cd player that is part of the nav system?

And can't you also listen to whatever cd is in the cd player while using the nav system?

The 05 nav units has the dvd slot and the cd slot so, that is total BS. You can definitely listen to cd's all the while have nav dvd going to. I have that unit in my 05 sport.

The 06 nav units have the dvd slot and the 4-disc changer built in. Not only can you listen to the a cd, you can have four with MP3's on it in the changer.

Which ever nav unit she gets, I would highly recommend getting an ipod adapter like the Vais unit installed if she uses an Ipod. It is much nicer than the port they have built-in. It gives you text and song info on the nav unit. I highly recommend it.

One issue I believe (not sure about this) she might have though might be that she will not be able to hear the NAV's voice as the normal JBL system amp does not support this feature. You have to have the JBL amp that comes with the NAV unit. However people here have added a small external speaker for this.

My 2005 nav unit has one slot for the nav DVD and one for a single CD. My dads 2006 nav has one slot for the nav DVD and a built in 4 CD changer. In addition, the 2006 has built in bluetooth so you would have to install the mic.

So with the '06 6 CD JBL unit you can swap in the Nav unit without messing with the trim, info bar and A/C-heater pieces? I thought you needed all the trim from the single CD unit for it to fit without strange gaps.
