2006 rear axle assembly fit a 1999

I have one of those rotted rear axle assemblies where the rear diff cover gets tiny pinholes and the gear oil leaks out. I can get e rear assembly from a 2006 4runner. I only need to use the housing and put the guts from mine in it. Anyone know if it will fit??

won't fit. get one from a 3rd gen to fit a 3rd gen.

Like stated above.. find one in the 1996-2002 era. Preferably one that's not rusted to hell.
