2006 Scion HU questions

Scion T1806 or T1807

Hey,
I'm new to this site. I just wanted to know if both the Scion T1806 and T1807 have aux (mini) ports on the front. i know the T1806 has an ipod control, but does that mean it has a mini or an acctual cord for it. does one sound better than the other? Also, is it a fairly easy install?

I don't think either of them have a port on the front. I think the ipod plug's into the port in the center consel.

I was planning on doing this switch but could'nt get any answer's, on the 1806/1807 and the dealer told me they are no longer carried and you have to get an 1804/1805 are the new number's I guess. I could'nt get answer's to it on here either of what the difference in feature's each had ect... I don't think I'm going to do anything anymore since I don't have the answer's I needed.

No input plug on either. I bought a PIE adapter that plugs into the back of the HU and gives you many connection options, in my case a 3.5mm jack. But both units do allow you to use the aux input on the center console of the 2006 4runners evidently.

Damn! I have a 05 limited so i dont think there is an input in my center counsel, is there a way i can buy a PIEadapter to plug in to the bottom of an ipod or a mini jack? (btw, whats a PIE adapter and where does it go?)

There are many adapters available for ipods - Denison ICE and PIE are two that come to mind.

The PIE is the simplest and one of the cheapest ($60-70)... a box that plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the HU. You then need a 3.5mm jack cable to run from the PIE box to the car interior to plug into the headphone socket of ipods and other accessories. Just make sure you get a well-shielded cable, otherwise you'll get interference (I bought the PIE branded one for $10).

The simple adapters like the PIE just give you a way to plug the ipod into the stereo and don't give any HU controls of the ipod (still have to select tracks etc. from the ipod). The more expensive adapters are more complex and give you some control of the ipod from the HU controls. Most plug into the bottom of the ipod.

if i plug it into the CD port can i still play CDs? would it work if i pluged it into the tape deck port (if there is one)?

Sorry, I meant it plugs into the CD changer port, which even single-disc HU's have. The CD player will still work as normal. The HU will simply treat the adapter and whatever is connected to it as CD number 2 (potentially of 6).

FYI, there is no tape player on the Scion HU.

you said the HU will read it as CD #2 but what if i have a single disc HU with no CD changer atached to it? i only have four modes: AM, FM, TAPE, DISC. how will it work with that, or will it?

There is no CD changer built into the singel-disc unit but it has a plug to connect an external CD changer that can then be controlled through the single-disc HU. That's what you'll be tapping in to.

The HU will think there is a CD changer attached to it and disc 2 will be you aux input. If there actually was an external CD changer attached, you'd press the "disc" button on the HU to however many times needed to select discs 1 through 6.
