2006 Scion Radio install in 2004 4Runner

Are these two radio completely interchangeable? I know the 2005 Scion HUs were, but I thought I read somewhere about issues with the 2006 Scion HUs going in the 4R, maybe something about the steering wheel controls.

I can figure out how to do the install, just want to make sure I get the right radio.

I like the 2006 with the volume knob, but will get the 2005 if I have to...

Will this HU work with the "premium" JBL system, 10 speakers? Thought I read somewhere that it only works with the 6 speaker set up. Not sure if it makes a difference that my truck is Canadian......

Everything I've read here suggests the Scion 06 HU works on all recent 4Runners with the single-disc stock unit and six speakers, steering wheel controls and all. At least I hope so, cuz i just got one on EBay for $80.

Basically as long as you match like for like you should be OK -- that is, single disc Runner HU with single-disc Scion HU.

The issues you might have been referring to are regarding the Scion 06 ipod HU, which is different from the regular one (three knobs rather than just one) and from what I gather is not fully compatible with 03-05 4runners. Not sure about 06 runners tho.

For the 3 knob version of the 2006 Scion Radio, that works with the ipod, has there been any update about the wiring harness. Does someone make the wiring harness adapter that connects to the radio? Or are there schematics available to make one yourself?
