2006 sport v6 or 2005 sport v8

Need your help, I'm having trouble finding a nice 2006 v8 sport in San Diego but I have found two nice cars. Help me decide since you guys are the experts.

Both cars are super clean and white, my favorite. Both cars are from dealers so price is a little high.

Should I pick the 2005 sport 2wd v8 with 84,000 miles, just service and they change the timing belt, water pump etc. for 15,900?

Or should I pick the 2006 sport 2wd v6 with 68,000 miles for 16,900? i like the 2006 body style better but the 2005 looks really good as well.

Give me your thoughts... Thanks

I personally would lean towards the 2006. Body refresh and less miles. Not sure why I'd really need a V8 with 2WD.

Thank Mytoy, it's funny because you truck is exactly what I want to do to mine when I get it!!! Haha, I subscribe to your build thread. White is the best color but at this point I'm willing to make some sacrifices.

There's a 2005 limited v8 4wd with 108k that they are asking 14,500 that may play into the mix now. I think I would kick my self for not getting a 4wd. Although here in so cal they are tough to find.

That sounds like a pretty fair price. Mine just hit 100K last week and it runs like the day I got it. I wouldn't pass up one with over 100K if you're looking for 4WD. Here in NE I have to have 4WD..plus I love playin' in the snow

I think you should be patient and wait for a 4WD if that's what you want. I've learned that you'll always end up regretting the purchase later if you don't get exactly what you want.

I think you can find a good rig, '05 or '06 for around $15K with 4X4 if you're patient.

Yeah, if you think there's even a chance you want 4WD then I'd wait and find one with 4WD. That white one above looks pretty good if the mileage isn't crazy high.

Just make sure you get a good pre-purchase inspection on whatever you're looking at. And make sure 4WD goes into Hi and Lo ok.

I say 2005. The V8 is so much smoother than that of the V6. Plus the 2WD is lots of fun in snow, ice and mud. Just keep that momentum!! :biggrin2:

Yup, not much snow and ice in Cali, unless I drove 7 hours up to mammoth. But I do go in the desert to go dirt biking but I neve need 4wd...... But i wouldn't mind 4wd. I'd love to have a v8 that was switchable between 2 and 4wd but I know I'm dreaming.

If it were me shopping and I was looking between the 05 and 06, I'm pretty sure I'd go with the 06. Mainly because of the body redesign and the lower miles on it, especially if you plan on driving it a long time. And with 2wd you really don't need the V8, just worse on gas and you know how California gas prices are right now, lol. I have a V6 and it has plenty of power and really good get up and go on the freeway. Whatever you decide on, good luck, have fun and keep us updated!

Haha, yes I've researched a bunch on the v6 vs v8 topic and don't want to start that war again, I've driven both back to back and you can't go wrong with the v8 but one of the big issues is finding a v8 in so cal. I thought I'd find more listed this week because gas prices went to over $5 a few days ago.

You should definitely go for the V6.......................only because I also live in San Diego and looking for a V8 and I don't want the competition.

I drove the V6 and V8 when I was looking, and decided on the V8 mainly because of the price that I got it for. I will say that the V8 has much smoother acceleration and is slightly quieter overall. I also like the extra weight in terms of on-road feel, feels much more like a truck.

Now, I don't buy vehicles for gas milage, but I was surprised when my first three tanks were under 17mpg, mixed driving, but probably 65% highway. A couple little adjustments in speed and acceleration habits bumped it up over 18, mixed.

The V8 also has a better towing hitch setup, from what I've read. Has the ability to support a weight-distribution hitch from the factory.

If you want to get the V8, go for it. If you need 4wd, if only once in a while, buying a 4wd truck will pay off.

even at $5+ a gallon, it's worth doing the math to figure the annual cost difference
then you have to figure in the 100K timing belt service for the V8 and the head gasket for the V6

all comes out about even (unless you add the value of the V8 fun factor)

I was in the same boat 06 v6 or 05 v8, both had their pros and cons. The 05 v8 was nice, yes it was smoother. I didn't find the AWD necessary. The timing belt would just be a maintenance cost, didn't really bother me. The 06 v6 had the AUX port for the radio almost a must have feature today. It had less miles than the v8 was looking at. Selectable 4wd. I couldn’t justify the V8 since I wasn't going to be towing anything big. I have had my 06 v6 since May. I have towed an enclosed trailer with three motorcycles in it to Duck NC from VA and to Ocean City MD from VA. The v6 did just fine and as I expected the truck did not like hills. Gas mileage was down to around 13-15 while towing. I figured the v8 would have had the same MPG results with less of an issue on the hills. I chose the 06 due to the slight differences with the interior features the LED tails and projectors.

Thanks guys, looked at th 05 v8 4wd and it was a piece of ****e, didn't even bother. Drove the 2006 v6 and it was in great shape, great color, but the v6 was a little more buzy, I really want the v8. Now I just have to find one that's not beat to hell. Where are all the 4wd v8s!!!!!
