I probably sound like a jerk, but I think the idea of a 2WD '4'Runner is just dumb and would never buy one. I'd just get a minivan or a station wagon. 
Personal opinion. Flame away if you wish, but that's just my honest opinion.
But I don't think the idea of a 2wd Jeep makes any sense either.
That said, buy whatever floats your boat man.

No worries boondoggle, I totally understand, I have a 4wd v8 grand Cherokee now and when I got the vehicle wouldnt even look at a 2wd because where I'm originally from (Virginia) you had to have 4wd for the snow. Now after living in so cal for 7 years now there is no bad weather, I even go to the desert to play offload but never need 4wd. It's tough as hell to even find a 4wd 4runner now and I'm open to having 2wd. I've searched the forum numerouse times and most say 2wd is just fine for 90% of situations, just have to use momentum.

I just sold a V8 4wd Grand Cherokee to get into my 4R.
Trust me. You will NEVER look back. :bigok:
I didn't even know they made Jeep Wranglers in 2WD, but they do. Odd, huh? Anyway, the only reason I am still holding on to the 4R is the V8, so you know which way I would vote. I actually prefer it to be in AWD all the time. Mine has about 80,000 miles. I have no complaints, except I wish the seat base was a bit longer. I doubt I will sell it. I do not enjoy driving the V6 as much, though I would still very happily own one....way better option than a Pathfinder or Grand Cherokee. You also get 1-2 MPG more on the V6. That 2 MPG on the highway is nice to have.
