2006 t4 headlamps conversion.

What a relief for many who ask about the fitments for 2006 Headlamps; the 2006 T4R projector headlamps can easily fit and inserted into the 2003-2005 T4R headlamp bay. I talked to a Toyota Service tech in my region, and he said the only change will be the bottom plastic insert will be replaced by the 2006 Headlamp package. Each projection lamp will be priced @ $270-280 each. So yes it will fit correctly with 2003-2005 4runners.

ooh. tempting, quite tempting..

nice to know as well..

so do they also sell ballasts and the like with the package? or is it just projector housings that aren't HID?

I think the ballast is inluded with each projection lamps. Ask your service retailer for that it may differ from other service parts location. But the parts place in California told me it comed complete.

So, once I replace the headlight assembly, I can then install the HID conversion kit in my Runner without blinding incoming traffice?

I don't see any problems on that installation. Its not as bad as the HIDs on BMWs on my neighborhood.

I believe the '06 projectors are NOT HID. Not exactly positive, but pretty sure.

I think they are normal projection lights- I took a close look at it last night at the dealership for a closer inspection and when the I turned on the light, it did have a bright emission of light but not as bright as HID, I even took a step back of 10 yards, I think its the same power and intensity as the normal 2003-2005 headlamps. But I know that it can be replaced with real HID projection bulbs similar to Harriers(Lexus RX330)

I hope they are interchangable, but if you look closely, there are a few differences that may cause them to not look right or possibly not fit.

1) The inside bottom corners are different. Then new ones have an angle cut, old ones are a right angle.

2) Same problem for the insert pieces. The new ones are cut at an angle to match the new grill, old ones have a straight cut.

Well looking at closely now from your pic, as I said before on my first response, then there might be a change for full fenders, and hood installation... but ill give it try any ways if it does hinder me from installing the lights I am ready for new hood and fenders

Haha, damn that's a lot of things to change! Maybe you should just buy the new one instead of having a half-breed! :p

Here's an overlay of the new light on the older one, you can clearly see the differences I was talking about.

damn damn damn.. thats a really good catch from your end... well I apologize for that error.. Just got to excited with the new lights that came out..They look really nice.. maybe that angle can be resolve with grill switch but I know thats a full fabrication..Little things like those always hurt my eyes but then oh well ill just do direct HID switch....and ill just wait another 6 year for new t4r upgrade... damn!

I feel ya man, I wish they would have made them interchangable, those bastards! It looks like the piece that outlines the new grill would fit right into that space on our models, but I bet that piece is part of the new hood/grill. Ahh oh well, we missed the mid-model update, I still love my 4Runner and think it actually looks a little better, but I'm still F'in pissed that I missed the new one by a month.

yeah same here, I bought mine like 4 months ago, then this came out. I love my T4r though... has the horsepower I need..... and already modded it out. But the lights are so tempting to modify...

The more I think about this, the more I'm starting to think I'll do what TranceKrayz did with his lights, and convert them to projectors

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12598&highlight=HID

I actually like the look of his, more then the 06 style. Plus they are projectors made for HID, so they'll work better then the factory ones too.

Just wish I had the money for everything.

that looks even better, Thats some piece of work! Good balance with the lights.... Maybe I should do that.. But I think for me thats allot of man hours

Ya that's another reason I haven't tried it yet, just don't have the time.

Hopefully someday I'll do this, I really want HID's.

The new 2006 projectors are not HIDs. They use h3 or h7 halogen bulbs, which means you'll have to modify your 9006 harness for those bulbs.

As for the projector quality if you were to put HIDs in them, we have yet to see. Most halogen projectors don't work well with HIDs because they're not made for that kind of output (i.e. distance and width of beam pattern). The only nice halogen projector that i've seen retrofitted with HIDs are the ones in the acura MDX.

As for my headlights, I don't think they look as nice as the new 2006 headlights, but thanks for the compliments! They sure perform well though!

Reading that was funny, the jack o lantern look. :-)

I like that forum, I post mostly in the LED section. But once I get into HID I'll be able to move on over to there too.

I don't get it. If they are going to the trouble to make the projectors, why not offer HID'S as a factory option?
