2006 V8 Sport worth looking at?

I saw a listing for a 2006 V8 Sport. I called the guy and got a bunch of info:

Asking price: $11900
Mileage: 159k
Timing Belt changed at 100k
Spark plugs changed at 100k
Front and rear tires do not match
Owner uses regular gasoline not premium
He is the original owner
Muffler replaced recently
4WD Low and center locker function properly
Passed inspection

It looks like its in good shape and well taken care of. The guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about and was a responsible owner. He said he just bought a Tundra and no longer needs the 4runner.

I was going to meet him at a Toyota dealer to have it inspected. I want to check the exhaust manifold for cracks, etc...

KBB has it listed at $9000 - $10400 for private sale and $6600 - $8000 for trade in value.

What do you think a reasonable offer would be? Or should I not even consider this listing?

If I was in that area and looking I would be interested for sure. Seems like the asking price at dealers has been going up on 4th Gens instead of down. I never see one on AutoTrader that low, for that mileage, etc. Sounds pretty taken care of too.

I just bought an 03 with 176k on it for $6200. I love the truck and am happy with the purchase. Get it checked out and take your time making the decision. I looked around for months and then this popped on my radar.

Check cargurus to see if there are any others within a couple of hundred miles so you have a point to negotiate from.

I get 15-17 mpgs

I am going to have the belt done soon - I have a friend who is a Toyota Master Mechanic so I'll have him take care of it sooner than later. No idea what the cost is. I read a post on here not that long ago where someone said a dealership quoted him like $800 to have it done.

Price is alittle high at 11900.

Free opinion, I would offer 8500-9500 and walk if no deal.

I got wife's 2005 with 43,000 for $17,000(from a dealer, located on cars.com)
Compare all three other v-8's and mileage, price points for them.

I would shoot for $10k. It is a well maintained one owner and depending on condition would probably be worth more. Keep in mind that these things will run darn near forever, so the mileage shouldn't necessarily scare you.

There are about 145 v-8's on cars.com right now. $12,000 should get you a nice 4wd under125,000 miles.

Mileage is an important metric, it essentially determines expenses, maintenance costs and overall length of service. So lower mileage can be preferred along with evidence of proper maintenance. Toyota VIN look up tool is useful here as is Carfax to e ensure you are not buying a repaired accident.

Think of it this way, at 12,000 miles per year, you would drive 3 years on some of these rigs before you hit 169,000 miles.

I've been looking around for one for my oldest son who just had his first baby and it seems the V8s are actually holding their value pretty well.... Seen an 04 like mine with 223K on it and they were asking 9900 on it :-0.. Sold it like in 2 days..

You mentioned the tires don't match, are they at least all the same size and tread depth?

If you could get it in the $10.5k area it sounds reasonable.

i have an appointment to dealer to change timing belt.only timing belt and labor is 500$,if ill need (i will need)water pump,serpantene belt and all other things changed(ill change)under 900$.

don't let them charge you labor if they change your serpentine belt! They have to pull the old one and reinstall one anyway, might as well be a new belt for $20.

paid 7500 for an 04 V8 with 149K on it two years ago off the used car lot. Used the timing belt/CEL light on as a bargaining tool.

I just bought a 2007 v8 4x4 SE with 87,000 miles for $16,500 to give you some reference. The timing belt was just replaced before I bought it. I think I got a pretty good deal on it (I hope). It has heated leather seats that I assume were installed after purchase (since SEs don't come in leather). So for that T4R to have twice as many miles and needing a new timing belt in the near future I would say that price of $12,000 is too steep. Hope that helps some.
