2007 - 9295 Miles - Price/Value Questions

That's a steal at less than 10k on the odo. I paid $500 less for a 60,000 mile sr5, no sunroof nor 4wd over a year ago. If that truck were here in Alabama it would be around the cost of a new 5th gen.

That being said it has hardly been broken in during 5 years at 166 miles per month. Oh- and what's up with that stick on aluminim stuff?

You make a great point that I think is overlooked with other people I have this discussion with. Edmunds cites dealer retail should be $19,161 in 'clean' condition with the published options. We had planned to wait until late winter/early spring 2013 for a 5th gen CPO or pre-owned.

What would your thoughts be on the fact that it really hasn't been broken in? I've not seen the service records yet...but, a few things come to mind.

Any suggestions on:

Dry Rot - tires, seals, any other areas
Battery

I have an appointment this evening - the dealer is a solid 1 hour drive from my location in Western PA. Just want to go in with as much info as I can.

IME Edmunds and KBB undervalue many used cars because they haven't adjusted to the fact that with the economy in the crapper and credit harder to get, fewer people are willing or able to buy new. That means more customers competing for the pool of used vehicles.

When we sold my wife's 06 Grand Vitara, KBB and Edmund's listed the value around $8500 - $9000. This was for an 06 Xsport edition with all the features except leather seats, and only 60k on the odometer. We were able to sell it for $10,200 and that was within a week of posting it for sale.

For a 4runner with miles that low, and a 4wd to boot, that seems like an excellent price. Of course, since it's in PA, I would want to make sure it doesn't have excessive rust on it. Here in CO I'll bet it would go for at least $2k more, and probably more than that.

I think I would remove the listing from this thread, take my checkbook with me and drive back home with my new Runner today. No need in creating competition for yourself.

I would look it over real close though. Carfax doesn't show everything. In fact, it doesn't show alot of things. Check the underside, and if it looks good buy the truck is my opinion. It is essentially a brand new truck and is still gonna be $10k under what a base 5th gen is gonna be without CPO.

You still have to ask for a discount from the dealer too. Maybe he'll sweeten the deal a little more when you're there.

Most all dealers put on a newish set of tires (usually cheap ones) before they sell it. Battery should be fine since there are a few guys on the boards with 03-04 still with OEM battery. Make sure you know how to and try the 4wd. If there are clunks or it doesn't engage you have an issue. 4wd should always be run periodically to make sure it doesn't seize. Make sure the sun roof works, and works like 5 times in a row. That can be a costly bill.

A buddy of mine who works at a dealer told me the margins on internet prices are very slim for dealers. If they post the price then that means you won't talk to them if you think the price isn't right because you'll just look at another dealership. They want to talk to you so you'll feel compelled to buy from them. Ask, but don't expect a lot of wiggle room. As for debating between a 4th and 5th generation that's up to you. Depends what 5 years and approx $8,000 means to you.
