LIke the Range Rover, the LC has become
a status symbol. How many LCs actually see any off roading besides going off the driveway onto the 19th Hole at the private country club, right next to the Lexus and Range Rovers.
While still very off road capable nad built like a tank, the LC has pretty much lived on its past reputation for being one of THE BEST safari vehicles (The Rover 110 Defender being in the elite group) However, like George Foreman, the money he makes now comes form his pugilistic fame in the past. LC's markup is huge and rests on its past.
I doubt Toy will make a great LC again. A basic version with a common rail diesel with 300 hp/450 pounds of torque, basci but solidly built cloth seats, no DVD players, no 15 way power seats, no back up cameras, no 5 level automatic climate control a/c, just good basic construction. Sell it at $35,000 MSRP. But then Toyota wouldn't have as much mark up.

The only way to buy a LC is buy a used one. Say a 2000 with around 50K miles in the $22-23K range. That way you get a nice big dependable luxury SUV that is good for several hundred thousand miles of dependable use for a price anyone can live with. New with a $60K price tag and they are just a status symbol. But the 2000 looks like the $60K rig and you get that great did I say "dependable" vehicle. I love to read the IH8MUD site where many of the 100 series owners take these luxury SUV's out on the trails and beat them up and they remain the dependable rigs that LC's are noted for. I recently read Truck Trends off road comparison with the LC being rated last. What a joke, if you read their comments in the article you would assume the LC would of ended up 1st or 2nd, but no they place it last. I owned an 80 series and I will own a 100 series someday. I agree that the new 2007 LC will be more luxury and bling and higher price. I think the 4runner is closer to the 80 series LC then the 100 series is from a form/function application.

im gonna buy a 2000 or so land cruiser for the soccer mom...ive been trying to research them but info on them is a little scarce ie dependability,inherent props,years of body styles and powertrains..

Is it the "I can afford an LC and you can't" attitude?
It's sad to see that kind of snotty cliquish attitude but I have found it to be prevalent regardless of subject whether it is fishing, shooting, electronics, personal PCs, stereos, etc.
Glad this is not one them.

They just like their 100's and think they should be used as rock crawlers and daily drivers and do both better then any other vehicle. Can't say I disagree with them ( I love the 100 series and I will own one), but some of them get pretty nasty if you don't fall down and worship the 100 series LC. Just ask Tai
PS- Tai if you had to do it over again it would of been better if you added a signature that you had a 2002 LC and a G500, that way they might not of attacked you like a rabid pack of dogs.

yeah, maybe i should have done that...it was exhausting to take on the whole forum like that...a few of the guys were cool and one actually will off-road with me next time out.
