2007 Oil Change

I have a question about the reservoir that the oil filter sits in on top of the engine. When I take the filter out it leaves about a half cup of oil just sitting there. It looks like there is some type of drain hole on the edge but the oil does not go down it. I end up having to use a turkey baster to suck this oil out of there then wipe up the rest with a towel before putting the new filter in.

Is there a trick to not having this problem?

Having the filter there is supposed to be convenient? BS if you ask me. Put it on the bottom of the engine so I can change the oil and filter faster all in one area!

What you see is a drain tube. There is a small plastic/rubber cap on the bottom of it.

The design intention is to put a container (or connect a drain hose) below that drain tube and remove the cap before you remove the oil filter. Its much messier if you remove it after the bottom is already full of oil.

What would be easier is don't put back the rubber plug on the oil filter catch (just like the plastic oval on the oil pan skid).

Save one of your oil quart bottles, the Pennzoil style rectangular base ones work better than the Castrol style square ones. The area below the oil filter catch holds the bottle securely.
