2007 Roof Drip Moulding Issue

Hi all -

I'm brand new to the site, and apologize on behalf of myself if this has already been covered -

Quite simply - the passenger side 'roof drip moulding' (Part #75557-35010) continues to hit the eject button. I've already replaced once, and now have the 2nd replacement sitting next to me. Thought crossed my mind that I should reach out to see if there is something I'm doing wrong on the install that is perpetuating the issue?

I believe the install is as easy as pushing it into place in the roof gutter channel. The ends tuck in under the factory roof rack feet.

Would be great not to continually deal with this (costing me $90/per for the part), any insight/wisdom that you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!

Go to an auto parts store, grab a tube of moulding adhesive, and stick it on. I did that 4 yrs ago...no issues.

I had the same problem with my 2013 Rav4. Told the dealership to do the same (lease vehicle)...no issues.

The cost of those stupid drip channel mouldings are just crazy expensive...don't know why, and they always have to special order them in for some reason.

When I had mine fixed on my '08 4runner the glass company said they had to pop off the plastic covers on the front of the roof rack unbolt the rack slide the trim underneath and then torque down. Been 1 year in weather extremes of +35C to -40C. No problems.

Having same problem [MENTION=120300]mchestnut[/MENTION] is having. Attached is the FSM replacement procedure. Still looking for proper adhesive. Any thoughts?

From my reading the FSM PDF you posted, the Primer M is not an adhesive. but a type of primer, I say this because it states..... note what I changed to red text and also it noting to allow the Primer M to dry for 3 minutes or longer, if it was adhesive I wouldn't think you would want it to dry until after the trim was installed...

"NOTICE:
• Dry the primer coating for 3 minutes or more.
• Do not coat the adhesive with Primer M.
• Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for
later use"

I would suspect that the Primer M is for stopping any rust from forming under the trim, but that's just a guess on my part.

I don't have a recommendation for you, but I did find this info on the Primer M and also Primer G which is for when installing glass in Toyota vehicles.

"Toyota identifies Primer G and Primer M. Toyota body repair manuals are produced for markets all around the world, but these primers are not available in the USA. Primer G is the glass primer, because Toyota does not allow the use of primerless adhesives when installing glass products. M primer is the pinchweld primer that is identified by the adhesive maker.
Epoxy primer is required on the repaired pinchweld. Self-etching primer cannot be used.
Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent is recommended.
Glass stoppers are only provided as a two-piece part. Toyota specifies two-piece stoppers, even if a one-piece was part of the originally installation."

That all being said and quoted, I would suggest checking with your local dealer for what they use instead, if as quoted above that these primers are indeed not available in the USA.

Also from reading what I quoted above I take it that the primer is for the adhesive/double sided tape to adhere too instead of the adhesive adhering to the paint or metal itself.

I just lost another one of these off my roof...so this will make the 3rd replacement. I'll stick Gorilla Glue on there this time if I have to!

noticed one of mine is missing. been gone a while. not sure it is really needed. what is the purpose of it? i did notice that there are some surface rust bubbles in the gutter. concerned that stuff, esp. silt/dirt, collects under these strips and damages the paint, eventually leading to surface rust. noticed same thing happening around other weatherstripping.

so, can i safely leave these strips off and expose the gutters? replacements are about $65 from dealer.

Don’t know what the ones on the roof between the rack mounting points do but I have been driving in the nude for the past few years with no issues.

It doesn’t appear to seal anything since everything is seem welded up there and the rack bolts are sealed themselves.

I think it prevents junk accumulation from cramming down into the gutters. If those get filled up you can get water up and over the sunroof pan. Into your lap. Unfortunately speaking from experience on that one, and not what I call a party to get an unexpected ball-shot from your sun roof while driving down the road...

Thanks to previous suggestion this time around I loosened up my roof rack footing and slipped the front end of the moulding underneath, and then tightened the footing down on top of the moulding. Have had no issues since. All that took about 5 minutes.

I am having the same problem. I noticed it a while back, but because of the weather here in Louisiana getting hot then, cold, then raining, I guess it progressively got worse. Noticed a big puddle in my floor mats.
Going to investigate tonight, hope its not serious.

no sunroof here, so thankfully not that concern. i guess the strip is both aesthetic and functional, though as i noted, stuff can accumulate under the strips and cause surface rusting. replacement is $65 at dealer, so considering it.
