2007 V8 - Engine ticking

I’ve got the ticking sound in my ‘05 V8, I only notice it coming from the passenger side while driving by any wall/building.

Were there any pics of what I should be looking for?

I use the Toyota OEM filters and Mobil 1 High Mileage oil. I can try switching to premium gas next time I refill.

My '03 Tundra V8 developed this noise, only audible when driving next to a wall or Jersey barrier under acceleration. If the noise goes away when you lift off the gas, it's an exhaust manifold crack...the 2UZ engine is known to have this problem.

If the noise doesn't stop when you lift off the gas, it's more likely mechanical noise and you'll want to whip out your mechanic's stethoscope to find the source.

In my case, I replaced the cracked manifold & converter with one from Eastern Catalytic (Pennsylvania) and had no further issues. Manifold Converters - Eastern Manufacturing

waypoint - were you getting a check engine light? did you buy it directly from the manufacturer?

2003 v8 217k miles. No variable valve timing this year.

I have a noticeable tick when cold. Goes away when warm. Very slight noise, but it is there. I chalk it up to the manifold. Would not go in there unless some other problem required it.

Same experience here on 04 with 155k. Only when cold and only on throttle.

Here ya go

No check engine light or performance issues, just an annoying high-freq tick when accelerating.

I got the Eastern Catalyst part and gaskets from Rock Auto.

Hi guys, you've been really helpful with some of my recent questions, so I figured I'd ask you all what you think.

My 4th Gen 2007 Limited V8 has been pinging slightly under throttle. It has 107,000 miles on the clock and an unknown maintenance history. I'm not sure if it could be timing or tune up related, but was looking for your opinions. It's nothing significant, but something I was hoping could be addressed with a tune up or timing belt replacement.

Thoughts?

normally a "tick" is a bad plug wire firing to the block and you are hearing the arc as it fires to the block rather then through the resistance of going through the spark plug.

engine noises are usually different levels of a knock and not a "tick"

If this was the case, a bad plug wire shorting out/arcing would cause the engine to skip/run rough which would be noticed by the operator in most cases and most likely cause a CEL to be displayed, these T4Rs are not like the vehicles of the past that weren't computer controlled and will trigger warning lights when a cylinder is misfiring.

My owners manual said premium fuel or knocking or pining may happen. When accelerating or under load that can be a sign of bad gasoline. Had that happen once with a different V8 premium fuel car. Got a bottle of Lucas octane booster and it cleared up. The next tank of gas I went to a different station, and it never happened again. See if that works first before you tear into it.

Could ticking while cold, then going away when warmed up simply be the lifters charging?

My 06 V8 does this.

Running synth oil can make warm-up ticking more noticeable than regular oil.

The V6s and the V8s have overhead cams, so no lifters in these engines.
