There will be 4 minor changes to the 2008 4Runner. I got the info from the Toyota Tech Information Site. There are more details but i did not have time to include them in this post. Anyone who wants a copy let me know or if you have a site that can host the documents I have downloaded that would be great

1. Front Grille modified

2.Brake System Control
a.VSV off switch will be used on all models
b. an Auto LSD function will be added to the brake control system for 4WD V6

3. Tire Pressure Warning System
4. Seat belt warning system

From the pdf's, it seems that the Sport Edition has been discontinued. There's no mention of the model code for it... also, it's not listed in the line-up.

well thats good, but the question that im asking is that why are they adding these features in 2008? I have a bad feeling that this will be the last real 4runner, the 2009 might be soccer mom car on a unibody frame. I mean a VSC off switch and a LSD function (wait isnt that ATRAC?). I just hope Toyota isnt making a sort of last stand with the 4runner before making it a grocery getter in 2009.

I just compared the model codes of the 2008 and 2007 4Runner and from these sheets we can't conclude that the Sport Edition is discontinued because the spec sheet for 2007 does not mention the Sport Edtion either and yet there was a Sport Edition availiable for 2007. Furthermore I beleive the Sport Edition technically is an SR5 and thus would explain why there was no seperate model code for the Sport Edition

I can picture it now...

2007 LA or 2008 New York Auto Show, Jim Press, head of North America Toyota operations walks to the stage...

"Today, I am sad to re-confirm that the US will no longer market the legendary Land Cruiser. Furthermore, we at Toyota Motor Sales USA laments the loss of the peoples affortable Land Cruiser, the Toyota 4Runner.

"Now lets jump for joy for the ultimate soccer mom mobile, the new Sequoia and Highlander."

A sad day indeed...bring an extra tissue box.

Looks like I have to import a Land Rover Defender.

I didn't really see much difference in the grill design for 2008. I bet that VSC off switch makes it easier to do donuts in the snow! :D

The VSC switch should make a few people here happy! Now, of course, how can incorporate this switch to the older 4runners?

I am going to make this a "sticky" at the top of this forum.

Thanks for the info!

i'd be very interested in learning how to do this. anyone know how ? in a few months if i see nothing, i'm going to start a new topic on this.

If somebody wants to help me, I already have a VSC off switch I made, and we can do a write-up. Here's why I haven't done a write up.

1) If either wire is interrupted, not only does VSC go off, so does ABS, and ATRAC.

2) You can turn it off on the fly, but not on. You must restart the car. I just put it in N and turn it off and then on again.

Auto LSD for 4WD V6

Thanks for the info. Question, the Auto LSD for 4WD V6, I thought that the current 4WD V6 has this? If you are in 4HI, it was my understanding that you are using the LSD by torsen. From the PDF you posted, I can't tell if Toyota is just adding a new indicator on the drivers panel to let you know that when the LSD is active?

And when you go to 4LO, then you start using ATRAC with the brake system.

What are others thoughts.

Thanks

Have you tried cranking it while running? That seems to reset much of the electronics. No harm to the starter either.
