It just gets annoying. You go slow and the only risk you run is if you flip over and don't have your seatbelt on. Other than that, IMHO, it is perfectly fine to not have your seatbelt on while off-roading.

There are plenty of times I remove my belt. Like when I'm in a campground, driving like 10mph, we're talking kids on bikes passing me. Or when I'm backing my trailer up, it's easier to twist around to look behind me without the belt. When I'm home from a long drive, I frequently remove the belt once I'm in my neighborhood, just a matter of being comfortable, I guess, or perhaps just a habit. And, of course, I never wear it when I'm off-road, especially if I'm in the Low range of gears. When off-road driving, it is sometimes safer NOT to wear a seatbelt. Twice I've nearly bailed out of previous 4WD vehicles I've owned before they almost rolled!!

The sales agent even pointed it out the two levers during the "preflight inspection" so I would not accidentally grab the wrong one. Hey guys...I know this is a old thread but I just want to put my 2cents in. Please...Use your seat belt when wheeling. We have had some deaths here recently because of people out having fun not wearing seat belts. Not trying to start anything I just don't want to here anybody else dying because of something that is so simple to use and saves life's.

VSC off TRAC CONTROL OFF in 2wd MODE...
Disregard the following. It was a computer error that was fixed by the stealership...
SO HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS! I FOUND A GLITCH... FOR V6 4WD
WHICH MEANS YOU CAN GAS IT AROUND A CORNER AND GET THE BACK END TO SLIDE A LITTLE, OR YOU CAN FLOOR IT AT A STOPLIGHT AND LAY SOME RUBBER WITH REAR WHEELS ONLY. ALSO MEANS LESS TRACTION SO DO THIS AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.
I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET VSC TRAC CONTROL OFF DURING 2 WHEEL DRIVE MODE.
1.) TURN ON 4RUNNER
2.) PLACE 4RUNNER IN NEUTRAL
3.) SELECT H4 (4WD KNOB) WAIT SEVERAL SECONDS FOR 4WD SYMBOL TO STOP BLINKING. IF IT DOES NOT STOP BLINKING PLACE 4RUNNER IN GEAR FOR A COUPLE FEET (LET THE 4WD ENGAGE) AND THEN BACK IN NEUTRAL.
4.) PRESS "VSC OFF" BUTTON ("SLIPPERY ROAD/CAR SLIPPING" LIGHT WILL COME ON. ONE LIGHT)
5.) PRESS AND HOLD "VSC OFF" BUTTON AND HOLD FOR ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS. WHILE HOLDING BUTTON, LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AND AFTER 3-5 SECONDS THE FIRST LIGHT WILL COME ON ALONG WITH ANOTHER LIGHT THAT SAYS "VSC OFF".
6.) TURN 4WD SELECTOR KNOB TO 2WD AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. YOU WILL BE IN 2WD THROW CAR IN GEAR AND YOU'RE READY TO LOSE TRACTION ON COMMAND.
7.) JUST A HEADS UP THIS WORKS SURPRISINGLY WELL, AND I WAS ABLE TO GET A DOUGHNUT ON WET ASPHALT WITH VERY LITTLE DIFFICULTY.

Ummm.... sorry to disappoint you, I don't there is a glitch. That's what the VSC off button was intended to do--shut off VSC. Toyota/Lexus has long been criticized by reviewers for the electronic nannies and taking the "fun" out of their cars. With the VSC off button, reviewers and owners can fully enjoy their Toyota or Lexus, pushing their skills and vehicles to the limit.
BTW, do not post in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING in Internet etiquette. Thanks.

You are telling me that you can get your V6 4WD 4runner to turn off VSC and TRAC completely while in 2 WD? If so my rig has a compter error.

My quoted response below is to the above. The 2008's have the VSC off button, 2007 and older 4th gens do not. So VSC is easily defeated/disabled on the 2008, that's why I'm saying it's not a glitch that VSC can be disabled.
Nope, I can't shut off VSC at all. It's permanently on, robbing and killing momentum unless the center diff is locked. I was under the impression the VSC off button will shut off VSC completely regardless of 2H, 4H or 4L. If it can't in 2H, I stand corrected.

I went to the "stealership." They flashed the VSC and now I can disengage in 2 WD also. Thanks for the info.
