2008 4Runner Front Break Question.

Really stupid question, On my 08 Runner with the V8 I am having a problem installing the wheels after changing out the rotors, pads and calipers... I can not get enough thread from the studs to come thru the wheel holes to grab onto.

I loosen the 2 bolts that hold the cal on and then get more thread but then I can not thighen the bolts... Either I'm going nuts or just tired... calling it a night and hoping someone has a suggestion so I can rap this job up tomorrow.

Thanks,
Wags1963..

You don't mention what model of 2008 4Runner V8 that you have ... SR5, Sport or Limited?

Depending on model, there were different brake packages available.

The SR5 had the "small" brake package. The Sport had the "big" brake package. And the Limited could have either "small or "big."

I'm not sure where you sourced your new brake parts, but you could be putting on the wrong size calipers and rotors, thus making it next to impossible to fit the wheels back on.

I'd check the original caliper for the size stamped on it (13WG or 13WL for small; 13WH for big) and compare to your new calipers.

Check this thread out as well:

I took the calipers off and took them to the supplier and matched them up and the rotors and pads came from Power Stop and I matched them when I took them off the 4runner. I have the Limited with the bigger break package.

Im wondering if I should fill the break reservoir and open the bleeders to allow fluid to fill the calipers via gravity.

It's only one side of the studs that don't pertrude enough, it's like the caliper when tightened pushes the rotor only on one side making it "lopsided" or not even or level per say.

either you have the wrong parts, or they are installed wrong.

Well I measured the rotors and they match, the calipers and they match I even measured the pads and they are dead on. As for installed incorrectly there is only one way to install them.. It's a simple job... I'm just wondering if having the calipers filled with fluid would make a diff.

no, that wont make any difference.

when I installed my bigger rotors and bigger calipers on my 2004 I found that NAPA here had 3 different types of calipers, not too sure if yours is the same or not. two of the three looked similar but I cant remember if they were the big ones or not. look on the back of the caliper they should have a "code" on them. It shouldnt be more than 4 digits. if they match then recheck your installation steps.
