2008 brand new 4runner!!!

Hi Everyone!!!

I'm looking to purchase a brand new 2008 4runner, V6, Sport edition.

I went to the dealer the other day, and they said that they were selling them much below msrp (the salesman offered to sell the car at 24,800.00).

Do you guys think this is a good deal or not?

Also, do you guys think its a good idea for me to consider getting a 4wd model (even though its more expensive?). BTW I live in the west coast (CA), and I never do offroading.

Your comments are much appreciated.

I also would appreciate any thoughts about this particular model that I'm going to purchase (if you think its good or bad, please let me know).

Good Deal, That is a great Deal!!!!! When I got my 08 SE 4x4 in Jan 08 the sticker was $36600 they had it listed on-line for $32600 + $1500 rebate, for a total of $31100 before TTL (tax,Title, Licence). That was below invoice at the time. I would trade in my 04 for a loss right now if I could find another 08 for $24800. Hell $24800 is a great deal on a 2WD SR5 V6 IMHO.

The SE (Sport Edition) is a great package. It comes standard with the X-Reas Shocks (they improve handling, optional on SR5s and Limiteds), a tube roof rack and running boards (SR5s and Limiteds have different steps and roof racks), SE are the only package you can get the Charcoal interior in (which is great for Hiding stains), The hood scoop sets it apart from the other trims also. The 4WD can be used as all-wheel drive also (this is true for all 4WD models, V8 4WD do not have the option of switching to 2HI, that can be a positive or negative depending on your preference).

Over all that is a great vehicle for a great price!!!!

At that price point, a 4x4 will still sell for $2000-2500 less than my ''Great'' deal a few months back! If that dealership has a truck you like in 4x, do it. We don't read too many posts about people 'regretting' getting 4 wheel drive. Remember what NCSCOTT said about the V6 4x system, you're able to run around in 2 wheel drive till you turn that dial on the dash.
 
That is a very good deal. I would go for the 4WD option if it is available at a equally good deal. I wish I had my 4 WD SR5 with my options for less than 30 grand.
 
Do the homework first.

Go to www.BlueBook.com and see check everything that is offered on the 4Runner your looking at. Many dealers are offering Toyota's $2,500 rebate on the 08 4Runners. So make sure your getting everything Toyota is offering. Many dealers will try screwing buyers and if they can they will.

The v6 2wd is a good choice I really like mine.:)
 
Sounds like a decent deal to me. Also, ask the dealership about 0% financing in lieu of that discount. I just bought a new 2008 Limited 4WD V8 model that came with either $4000 off in rebate or 0% financing for up to 60 mos. Trust me, even if you could get anything lower than 5.5-5.75%, you'd still end up paying a lot more for the vehicle than if you used 0% financing, in the long run anyway.

Get the finance guy to run both sets of numbers for you, and look at the total amount paid in over the life of the loan. I'd go with the lower total of all 36, 48, or 60 months worth of payments, which should come with 0% - but ask them to work up both scenarios - so you can see which is cheaper in your particular deal.
 
that is about what I paid for my sr5 v6 2wd in October, plus got 0.9 for 60 months or 0 pct for 48. I took the .9 to keep my payments a little lower since i retire in a year and am going back to school.

I just have one important question on my mind.

Today, I test drove an 2008 SR5V6 (base) 2X2, as well as the 2008 SR5 V6 Sport edition 2X2.

I noticed that the Sport edition, was slightly louder when comparing it to the base, as I accelerated (starting at appoximately 2000 rpm). I specifically noticed a "purring noise".

Its important for me to mention that this "purring noise" is almost undetectible. In fact after getting into the SR5 base, and driving it the 2nd time, I noticed the same sound as well (but just a hair softer).

I asked the salesman why this was the case, and he mentioned that I can hear the noise in the Sport Edition, because it has the hood scoop, and can intake air faster.

Does any other Sport edition owners (V6) have noticed that this louder noise? or is it just occuring in my own head??? (really the purring is almost undetectible in both cars).
 
Can't say I'm surprised if your salesrep is either clueless or so desperate for a sale to feed you such bulls..t. The hoodscoop is decoration, kinda like the foglights being used in the daytime.My advise,drive another one. The Sport has some neat features that the SR5 won't have. The X-Reas suspension, bigger brakes and dark interior, some people like the tube-step roof-bar package too. I'd rather had the SR5 running boards on my Sport though.....just me.Not sure why you're hearing more noise but' people' built them, so every one may be just different enough to hear or feel subtle sounds or vibrations.Well, thats what I would do.....drive more 4RS!

The salesman was completely full of sh!t. That tends to happen alot.

The Hood Scoop is completely non-functional!!!! It is a cosmetic item. It could have been a difference in the wind noise caused by the position of the cross rails on the roof racks. This is common. Did one have a sunroof??? I own one of each (SR5 & SE) and I would not say one was louder than the other in stock form.

I completely agree with cmbs post also.

Take another SE same engine and drivetrain for a spin. Personally, I would go for the SE over the SR5. IMO, the SE is the best bang for the buck in the 4Runner trim level. There are a lot of extra amenities in the SE that isn't available on the SR5. Not to mention the SE has a lot of features found in the Limited, without the Limited's price.

If you're not going to the snow and it's the 4Runner is driven around town, the 2WD will be fine. Fewer things to go wrong or break and an extra mile or two per gallon. I wondered about 4WD when I bought mine, but for the three months or so out of the year to Tahoe, I didn't want to freeze or stick my butt in traffic trying to get chains on, it was worth the $1500 to me.

I did not notice any difference in "exhaust" noise during the test drives. The only difference was that the Sport had a noticeably firmer ride due to X-REAS suspension.

I bought the SR5 only because I wanted the most basic truck, I already had one with all the bells and whistles.

You may also want to think in terms of resale value: IMHO 4x4 is more popular, and will bring the added value when sold or traded.

You do not need to venture off-road to appreciate the benefits of the 4x4 system. Getting up an iced hill, helping your friend with a 2x4 out of the ditch :biggrin2: , gardening (may come in handy pulling out tree stumps), etc... Of course, if you enjoy any mountain or winter sports, or plan on driving your truck on the beach, then the 4x4 is a must.

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure won't be driving my new 4Runner in a bunch of salt covered snow.
That's what I have the old trusty 82 Ford Bronco for and as for sand I don't go anywhere near the nasty stuff.
And as for anyone pulling tree stumps with their 4Runners they sure must enjoying doing stupid things. Just MHO on the subject.

To each his own... :p I, personally, find it stupid keeping a second truck just to drive it into the snow (where, BTW, the 4Runner will DEFINITELY outperform an 82 Bronco, unless the Bronco is souped up). In my younger days I had a '78 Bronco with 3.5 inch chassis lift with 351 M with 35 inch tires. It had a great off-road capabilities, but they came at the expense of on-road manners.

The T4R is a vehicle that is designed to go anywhere and do anything (almost) "out of the box". Why would anyone "baby" it? Salt, sand, dirt, ice, whatever, it can handle it.

I love my truck, actually I love BOTH my trucks. But they are trucks, and are being used as such.

As for pulling stumps... We had a major landscaping work done this summer that involved taking out a lot of brush and overgrown bushes and we needed to get rid of the stumps and roots. The landscaper's F250 could not pull that out. I hooked up the T4R and easily pulled that in the L4 setting.

Would not e able to do that with a 2x4. Just my 2 cents...

There are some good deals here in Norcal right now. I was quoted 24,700 on a 08 SR5 V8 4X2 recently. There is a dealer here that is offering 7,500 off their remaining 3 4runners in stock (2 08 4X4 limiteds and the SR5 4X2).

However that is definitley YMMV.....

Even here in the bay area the other dealers are still quoting top dollar for their 08 4runners....

One even went so far as to as to tack on TDR, Advertising, and Dealer Holdback...... (total of 1500.00).... LOL......

Crazy...

Hey benjitsaur.... Piercy Toyota in Milpitas is the one has 7500 off their remaining stock of 08's until Dec 31st.....
