2008 Limited Question!

I'm going to purchase a 2008 V8 limited with nav. I looked under the truck on the side of the frame and it appears it has Xreas with that canister and metal lines running to the front and rear.
I'm curious about the self leveling option that appears to be associated with the Xreas, or so I read somewhere. So if it has Xreas, does it have that self leveling feature? My friends 04 has a switch that manually raises the rear or lowers it. Not sure if 08 changed to a self leveling set up. Any info would be appreciated. Also possibly selling my Sport if anyone is interested!!
Tried to search again. Man...you know the search feature is messed up when I put in just "4runner" and it says no matches!

That's a rear air suspension, which is unrelated to XREAS. It is useful if towing, but otherwise skip it.

After talking more with the owner of the 08, he doesn't recall any switch for rear air control so it must not have the rear air option I assume. After reading more here with the now functioning search feature, I hope it doesn't have the rear air!

load leveling option is awesome!!
I load the truck up with mulch, sod, people, or anything else and it drives great. Also tow a 22 ft boat and it drives fantastic.
You hear the compressor kick on and the truck self levels.
I used to have a grand cherokee with coil over shocks which squatted and drove like crap when loaded or towing.

I totally agree. I have an '08 Limited with XREAS and the self-levelling suspension and it is great for towing AND carrying heavy loads. It makes the 4runner handle much better under load. I highly recommend it!

There are three suspension setups on the V8 Limited.

1) The standard suspension (found on all SR5's).
2) X-REAS only (same as the standard setup on Sport Editions, optional on Limiteds).
3) Rear air suspension with X-REAS (available option only on the V8 Limited).

If it has rear air suspension it has X-REAS, rear air suspension is not available without X-REAS. It has rear air, if there are two additional buttons on the center console next to the DAC buttons. (There are no blanks between the seat heater controls.)

Thanks for the replies. I am now the owner of a 08 4runner Limited V8 Nav with Xreas but no air suspension. Oh well, makes it easier to lift!! Now I have two 4runners! Really liking the Limited accessories though!!

I am shopping specifically for an '07 or '08 LE 4x4 V8, so I was reading this thread. I test drove a '07 V8 2wd LE at a Toyota dealer yesterday, and noticed 3 or 4 blank switches on the console in between the seats. Of course the sales guy didn't know what options might be absent this particular LE (silly me for axing a sales guy such a technical question).

So this reply here was very informative for me, but it also brings to mind a couple more questions. My usage of the vehicle will be general city and highway usage, with only occasional mild off-road use, and with occasional fairly heavy towing (the reason I will be buying the V8 model)

1) What specifically is the XREAS suspension, and what does it do? I noticed on threads here that some folks consider it essential and yet others don't want it. How common is the XREAS option on the LE models in '07 and '08? And how do you tell if the vehicle you are looking at has XREAS only?

2) Re the rear air suspension, how common is this option on the '07 and '08 LE models? How expensive would after market rear air suspension systems be? Can anyone suggest any quality brand names?

3) Do all '07 and '08 V8 LE models have a transmission cooler? Or do I need to look for a tow package option on the vehicles I am shopping? I live in a desert climate, so this is a must.

Thanks in advance!

1. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/perfo...superchargers-more/1076-xreas-suspension.html

2. It's a pretty rare option. If I were to take a guess, I think maybe only 10% of the V8 Limiteds have this option. You can add airbags that you manually inflate to keep the rear leveled. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/off-roading-home-monst4rs/14181-rear-coil-spring-decision-time.html

3. Both the V6 and V8 4Runners have the transmission cooler. The V8s have in additional an external auxilary mounted cooler in front of the radiator.

My '08 Sport has XREAS but since you specified "2008 Limited Question!" I won't mention that it rides quite well but no better than my 2 previous T4R's (2nd and 3rd gen) with upgraded Tokico and Bilstein (respectively) shocks.

Thanks for the replies! I did get the 08 V8 Limited so now I have an 05 V6 Sport and the Limited. I have to say I think the limited Xreas seems softer than the Sport Xreas, if thats possible. Same load range tires but Hankook AT-F's on sport and Toyo Open Country HT on limited, both have Toytec level spacer. Maybe its just my imagination! Or its the tires.

Self-leveling without buttons?

I have a 2003 Limited V8 with X-REAS. The dealer told me I have the rear air suspension as well but I don't have the buttons to control it. Is this a self-leveling system? Not sure I believe the dealer. What does the rear air suspension look like?
