2008 questions

i'm an ex-owner of 06 t4r. owned it for about 6 months and then got rid of it (long story).

i'm in the market for suv again and t4r seems to be still the only car that fits the bill. i'm thinking about '08 model since the timing seems to be right (buyer's market)

two things bothered me a lot about '06.

1. my '06 had driver's seat clicking problem - would click and move slightly under hard acceleration or breaking or sudden turn. has it been fixed on '08s?

2. rattling noise from sunglass-holder - it was always there since new. about 3 months later, the cog broke and had it replaced under warranty. and then the rattling noise increased five-fold. meant to have to serviced but never did cuz i got rid of it soon after. - has it been fixed on '08?

unrelated question. is there all-new t4r coming up pretty soon as 2010 or 2011? if it's one of those crossover (ie. no truck ladder chassis), i have no interest. but if it still retains the basic form of t4r, that is, truck chassis, ability to do 2wd/4wd on the fly, locking diff, etc, i'd be interested. anybody got any info?

I haven't had any of those problems yet. actually i really have no annoying sounds at all. It rumbles a bit when i am going slowly up a hill but its just the vibration of th engine and the high rpms. It seems that most everything has been fixed

I have an '08 and notice no such issues. Then again, mine is still fairly new.

Plus, the 2 major issues you cited seem to me to be more vehicle specific and not a systemic problem throughout the entire model line. I mean, my Tundra didn't rattle for the 1st 100k miles, now there is a dash/glass rattle on the driver's side, the front seatbelt retracts no longer automoatically retract...stuff happens.

I wouldn't *not* look at the '08 or '09 4Runners because of the 2 issues you mentioned - as I said, I'm sure those issues were specific to your 1 4Runner and not the whole lot of them from that model year. Besides, until they stop loading up every car and truck sold today with 98% plastic interiors, rattles, squeeks and other odd sounds are going to be a fact of life.

No issues yet on my 08, even after hitting a deer and doing nearly $3700 damage! With under 4000 miles on it!!

I have the "seat clicking" issue on my '08... Well it's more of a knocking issue. May be due to a partially tightened seat bracket bolt, but it really does not bother me enough to try to figure out what it is.

So to answer your question - Yes, I have the same issue that you had.

I only have a little over 2000 miles on my '08 and I haven't noticed any issues like those. Matter of fact, no issues at all. But then again, my '08 isn't my DD. I'm still running the '00 most of the time to work.

I'll add my $0.02.

My new '08 Sport V8 2WD only has about 400 miles on it.....bought it two weeks ago.

No issues so far.

NO sunroof. No rear "wing" either. I greatly enjoy these two omissions, and saved over 1000 bucks to boot.

I finally got the homelink to program, after doing ALL sorts of contortions with the old remote.

As I said in an earlier post, this vehicle is Smooth and Solid.......the doors close like a vault!!

BTW.......I STILL have a hard time believing that there is NO transmission dipstick......and NO scheduled transmission fluid and filter changes. Life is GOOD......finally!!!

I had a 2006 T4R and had to have the seat replaced because it rattled and squeaked and such.

I sold the 2006 and bought a 2008 T4R. Although I've had a bit of noise from the seat in the 2008 (the dealer replaced the seat track) it's now pretty darn quiet inside.

I didn't have the issue you mentioned with the sunglasses holder rattling in my 2006 and I don't have it in my 2008. I've very pleased with the build quality of my 2008 4Runner.

Good luck with your decision.

was your seat powered or manual?

My '06 had powered seats (so does my '08). The squeaky/creaky seat problem seems to occur in both manual and powered seats.

I find no seat problem of any kind in my 08 with powered seats.
