2008 transmission problem?

I just bought my 2008 sport edition 4wd about a month ago with less then 40k on the odometer. On two separate occasions now, after reversing out of my driveway and shifting into drive, the engine will rev like it's in neutral. I then have to shift into neutral and then back to drive for it to go anywhere. This should be covered under warranty but I wanted to see if any of you have had this same issue or know what it could be. Thanks!

Tranny Issue

Yes I have also had that issue crop up from time to time on my 08' SR5 as well. I have about 64K on the truck and have owned it for a little over a year. Always when backing up and then shifting into drive. Same issue, it will hesitate for a few seconds, rev up, and then suddenly go forward. I did some research and found this site Toyota 4Runner Problems, 2008 Toyota 4Runner Complaints - Page #1 which let me know I wasn't crazy. Has not happened in a while. But is is concerning, imagine try to back out onto a busy road and trying to quickly put it in drive and the truck is sitting there like a sitting duck.

Thanks for posting that link, it's definitely good to know I'm not alone. I have an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday so we'll see what they say. From that site, it doesn't look like I'll get much of a solution to the issue, but hopefully they'll be able to do something.

If you actually have to shift to neutral to fix it, that indicates a problem.

However, you may just have to wait a second to give it time to shift. The shift will happen quicker (or at least functionally quicker) if you come to a complete stop with no reverse rolling of the wheels.

Wouldn't hurt to check trans fluid level.

Iam interested if you found the source of the problem.

I just bought a 2005 limited, v8, 4wd. I has 118000 miles. Two times this has happened in the last week.

I am going to change the trans fluid. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will solve the issue.
