hard shifter lever

My 2019 TRD OR has been sitting for sometimes a week or more before I drive it. For the last couple of months the transmission shifter lever has been difficult to move from Park-Reverse-Neutral-Drive. So with the engine running, my foot on the brake I would quickly shift from P to D, then D to P (back & forth) and it would loosen up after a few minutes of me working this. Now, it's still doing the same thing but "D" (drive) won't light up in the small square window between the engine temp gauge & the fuel gauge. And NOW my cruise control won't work. I did spray lube on the linkage/cable on the drivers side of the tranny but it doesn't fix this problem. I posted on another 4R forum & a guy suggested that maybe the "transmission range sensor" or "neutral safety switch" has gone bad. The part numbers that I've come up with are 84540-60050 and 84540-35060. Does anyone know if these parts are the problem or is it another part like a gear selector switch?

when my PNS switch went bad it started similar to yours. hard to move the shift lever. then all lights lit up on dash a couple days later. had toyota replace the switch because after 10+ years those bolts are seized on there. you could keep driving until you get a CEL and that will tell you if it's the switch or maybe try and scan for codes and see what you come up with

Are you parking on completely flat ground or on a slope?

Do you use the parking brake before putting in "P" ?

Do you put in "P" then apply parking brake?

Do you just put in "P" with no parking brake?

I have only experienced difficulty shifting out of park when on slopes, but becomes normal immediately after a big clunk.
There is a park pin inside the tranny -most trannys-I do not know exact component of our A750 tranny - that could have become slightly damaged? Then extra force would be needed to shift which maybe damaged shift mechanism?

I park on a completely flat driveway. I bought a new Neutral Safety Switch today and having it put on tomorrow. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

I had the same issue. Sometimes the "D" wouldn't light up on the dash.

I had the neutral safety switch replaced at toyota during the winter (I wasn't fighting with that in my slushy driveway) and it fixed the problem completely. I asked to see the old switch, and it was heavily corroded, just like photos I had seen on this forum.

It was a quick, easy fix. Good luck!

Had the NSS (part # 84540-35061) replaced today & all is working perfectly. Shifter is moving freely and the "D" light is on display, & cruise control works.
