2009 4Runner...headlight questions

I have a 2009 SR5 with the V6 and am thinking about upgrading my low and high beam lights to LED. Are these projector or reflector headlights from the factory? I am looking at the Auxbeam or BeamTech CSP LED lights. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the 2006 and newer have projectors from the factory. 03-05 where reflectors.
 
dont waste your money on the led lights for headlights.

either retrofit ture hid projectors or you can get by with a decent hid kit on the low beams, for high beams just use good bulbs.

I was originally running Sylvania Silver star ultras (whatever their top bulb was) but they rarely ever lasted a year. I bought some LEDs on amazon with a ton of good reviews. Since we have projectors on the 2006-09 models, I assumed they would be good to go. I plugged mine in and have been using them for about the last month or so.

I love the color they produce, slightly cooler than most halogen bulbs but not that terrible blue cast that you see in a lot of crappy high school ricer cars. They are bright in the way that they spread the light out very well. Overall I think the spread is better than the previous halogens. My cutoff is still sharp, the same as my halogens. My problem is that since the actual LEDs are only on 2 sides of the "bulb" there is a dead spot when looking into the projector which prevents the majority of the light from hitting the road ahead of you. If you look dead on into my projector with the lights on, it looks like a cat eye or a halo within the projector itself. That just proves to me that the design isn't perfect for our projectors. Coupled with my fog lights, the combined output is great and brighter than my previous halogens but the LEDs themselves are brighter overall, just not as bright lighting up the road ahead of my vehicle.

I tried to review the bulbs on amazon and *surprise* reviews were disabled without an explanation why.

I'll probably consider HIDs or just go back to Silver star ultras again when these die.
 
Thanks for all the input and information. I do appreciate it since this is my first 4Runner since 1988. Sure has changed a lot in 20 years. Now that I have good information, I will be able to choose the right lighting for my needs! :)
 
I bought the s3 auxbeam LEDs from Amazon. I first had them in my reflector headlight model from 03-05 and people thought I had my brights on. So I upgraded to the projector lense 06-09 headlights and they work perfectly. Clean cutoff and much brighter then the halogen bulbs. They have fans in them to keep cool, you can hear a slight hum from the fans inside the car when you turn it off before the lights cut off.
 
Before getting too deep into time & expense, consider the H9/9011 bulb upgrade. Search the forum to find many threads and a how-to. I can tell you from personal experience that it makes a profound difference at a fraction of the cost.
