2009-TE Rear Diff lock won't engage.

Just found a sweet 2009-TE. 88K miles. One owner. Super clean CARFAX. Very clean unused truck. 4LO wouldn't work due to lack of use, after several tries and use it will engage every time without a miss. Rear diff locker will not engage despite many tries. Cant find any info or threads on this subject as this is a pretty rare vehicle. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Just buy it and get it fixed. It will be cheaper than fitting an aftermarket one on a non trail. Also get it cheap since its broken.

There is nothing rare about it with regards to it's drivetrain. It uses the same locker as every FJ and Tacoma that came from the factory with a locker.

There is a way to actuate the locker manually with a screwdriver by removing the elocker motor from the rear diff housing. Should be pretty simple, look it up.

Search thru the 3rd gen pages. Elockers are known to seize up when not used and there's lots of experience with this in 3rd gen land. Usually it just requires a tear down and rebuild of the electric actuator mechanism. Not too hard to do.

Also - do not forget that the elocker cannot engage unless the truck is in 4LO.
This is true for all elocker equipped trucks. There might not be anything wrong with the elocker at all.

As others have said, read through the FJ Cruiser or Tacoma forums as this is a pretty common issue with rear lockers that aren't used much (or ever) and the part is the same as in those trucks.
