Has anyone replaced the stock sub in a 5th gen 4runner if so what brand did you use? I was told it was a 10", but I tore into the back panel and found it was only an 8" any suggestions? would like to do it myself.

Subbwoofer replacement
Need some help here!!! I removed the stock 8" subwoofer from my 2010 limited the other day and I ordered a replacement but there are 2 sets of wires? which one should Ihook up to the replacement sub. I think one goes to the "party mode" setting? could I bridge the two together and get it to work that way? I dont know please help!!!

There are two sets of wires most likely because it's a dual voice coil sub, just like the 4th gens. If they haven't changed anything in the 5th gen sub, it's an 8" shallow mount sub (less than 4" deep), around 2.2 ohms, Dual voice coil (DVC).
There are lots of subs that will fit, but, the whole OEM amp & sub 2 ohm output thing really screws the pooch. You won't get much output from the OEM amp into an aftermarket sub. Your best bet if keeping it stock would be to tap the sub output from the amp, and connect an aftermarket amp to your new sub (speaker level inputs).
Brands, I would just keep it simple. The Pioneer shallow mount subs are actually very nice!

I replaced the OEM 8" sub in my 03, and at the same time added a seperate amp to power it. Turned out excellent. You can get subs to run off of the stock amp, but if it's like the 4th gen the power rating is so low to the sub it's not going to push it very well. See the link in my sig for more info on my setup.
