2010 Limited Nav

I have a 2010 Limited with the Navigation system. Is there a way to have the Nav recalculate the route like a Garmin or other GPS systems when you go off course?

I don't believe that there is because our GPS is based on a DVD as against Garmin and others that connect directly to the satellite which allows the recalculation of the route.
 
Maybe I misunderstood your question, but mine recalculates right away if I go off route. It doesn't usually try to get me back to the point where I left the programmed route like some of my former GPSs did.

Our Nav does not recalculate. It will only maintain the original route no matter how far you vary. Do you know if this is a setting I am missing?
 
I have a 2011, i'm pretty sure they're the same model. Mine does recalculate. It doesn't take you back to the starting point/back to the original route. The only time it forces me to 'continue to route' is if i'm in a field/area not on the gps (new neighborhood).
 
If you leave the original route on mine you can still see the original route but it no longer directs you how to get to the destination and the route does not get updated. You can see the original route if you get close to it but no recalculate.

I'm very happy with the system overall. Got a notice from Toyota today actually, asking me to pay $160 to upgrade the map software. Anyone have insight on this? Worthwhile? Workaround/torrents? :hiding:

My insight is that Toyota can pound sand if they want $160 every year for updates.

The GPS satellites have NOTHING to do with recalculation, they are strictly for your position (lat/long). It is up to the system to recalc the route if needed if your position varies from the route in place. I be shocked if the 4R Nav did not recalculate, I'm sure it does. $99 Tom Tom units do, I'm sure a 4K unit will.

My 2010 Limited NAV automatically recalculates the route without issue. When you are driving, does your position on the nav screen change to show you are actually "moving"? Is anything on your dash blocking the little sensor? (It looks like a black circle in the middle of the dash, on top) I have never had an issue with this function and mine reroutes me very well. Also, are you sure you don't have guidance "paused"? If guidance is paused, it won't reroute automatically because it's not "guiding" you anywhere. I would start there, I'm sure it's got to be something very simple.

Whenever I get off route our Nav does nothing. You can see the blue route but it does not move it remains the same. If you get back in range of the original route you can see the blue original route. I have a Garmin and it will recalculate and give you a modified route if you leave the original route but not our Nav. Does anyone have any suggestions? Settings or other?

I would take it to the dealer and let them look at it. It's covered under warranty to 36k miles.

I tried it again this weekend. The only thing it does it tell me to turn around but does not recalculate another route from where I am at. I guess I will just take it back to the dealer as I looked at the setting this weekend and could not find anything to fix it.

I'm not speaking for the poster that you referenced, but my 2 cents...I think a system that you paid $3500 for *should* have free updates. After all, if you buy Windows or similiar systems, the updates are free.

I think $160 is way too much for a software update that may or may not update routes that I personally have to drive. Mind you, it's not the money, but rather than whole concept of charging me to update my system that I purchased FROM them.

I've gone 8 years with a E-Trex (nav map) with no software update and I've not had any issues yet. I doubt I'll encounter any issues without updating my 4skinner Nav.

So, to echo his sentiments, Toyota can put that $160 software update where the sun don't shine. :)
