2010 SR5 (used)

I recently purchased a used 2010 SR5 (58,000 miles) and am stoked so far with it. I'd been looking at buying a 4Runner for awhile and when this one popped up in my price range, I grabbed it quick. I took it in for its initial checkup at my local Toyota shop and they said everything looked perfect. Also, they said as far as oil changes, this year and model only require ONE oil change every 10,000 miles?!?! Lastly, anything you experienced 4Runner owners recommend me to check?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome! Congrats on the new rig! I am from the Dubuque area. I would check the tail gate trim 4Runner piece for rust/paint bubbles around the edges of the trim. I would also check and make sure to check the underbody and wash it out at least a few times a winter as weather allows.

Regarding oil... I still change mine every 5K but a bunch of folks on here follow the 10K rule.

And joining this forum you better check your wallet as it can be expensive!lol

Before you get flamed for asking about maintenance questions I'll say first off: welcome. 2nd, check out the maintenance and FAQ sticky lots of good info there.

oil schedule

My Toyota dealer mechanic doesn't buy into the 10000 mi. schedule. He is more comfortable with 5-7,000 mi.

The Toyota Owner site will also tell you of any services done at the dealer. A friend just bought a Land Cruiser from a Subaru dealer with no service records from the dealer. He was getting ready to do a costly timing belt and water pump change but found both had been done at 93k from the Toyota Owner site.

Regardless of what people might say, follow the 10k oil change schedule and you will be fine. They test the living hell out of vehicles before they start selling them and oil intervals is a big part of that. Oil is waaaaay better than it was even 10 years ago and can handle 10k without issue. The only real issue is getting people to accept this and stop treating their fluids like they are from the 70's.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

I DO have the manuals and have since read through them after initially posting the questions I had. I appreciate all the info and advice and look forward to the several hours I'll be spending on this forum. It's only been a week or so but I've already got a huge wish list. You all were right, I can hear my wallet getting thin as I type.

Cheers.
