Truckvestite... had not heard that one before. And the comparison of the CC sounds to the Predator is awesome. I could care less if reviews are positive or negative, but at least this guy evaluates it for what it is, a truck, and not what it isn't, a crossover.
 
Fox News contributing correspondent Sarah Palin just updated the article to say that everyone who buys one is an unpatriotic America-hater because its made in Japan. :(

All the 4runner 4x4's have it,not sure if the 4x2's have it or not.

I have the Trail edition; the car slipped about 1' when I was starting uphill so I applied the brakes; maybe I did not wait enough.
(I know for sure that the Trail does not have the Downhill Assist Control, since it has the Crawl Control)

The hill start assist only kicks in if you press the accelerator. If you just let your foot off the brake it will roll back down the hill until it runs out of hill. Rather than hold the brake on a steep hill for a short term stop, I just feather the accelerator and keep the vehicle from moving in either direction.
 
If you are in 4Lo, you will never roll back :D Then it only climbs, at least anything within reason that you would ever feel comfortable without flipping the car!

I gave it a try this morning;
1. Drove to a moderate climb, stopped the car and let go of the brake pedal: the car did not move.
2. Tried it again, and as soon as I let go of the brake pedal the car started moving back slowly, the Slip indicator Slip.jpg started flashing with a beeping sound.
3. Tried it again: same as 2nd try

[Toyota manual states that Hill Start Assist Control works when a) Shift lever is in D or S, b) Brake pedal is not depressed, c) Locking Differential is unlocked and d) brake system is not overheating. ]

I'm going to have to go test it again and maybe visit the dealer. I've rolled back down a few driveways and never had it kick on.
 
Mine is different alltogether -

In my case, if I am on an incline, and I "quickly" move my foot from the brake to the accelerator, and then give it just a little gas, the ABS seems to kick in, and the vehicle will creep forward. All the while, the traction control light will flash, and there is a whole lot of clicking coming from under the hood.

I am going to try some experiments and then head to the dealer in the morning.
