Hoping someone may have experienced this and knows of the resolution. 2010 4Runner SR5, 140K in miles. In December I had the shift sensor replaced and at the same time did a transmission flush. Since then I'm getting a 5 sec or so delay in going into gear mainly from reverse to drive but on occasion from park to drive. It happens when cold or warm, one day it doesn't do it, the next it does, very unpredictable. My mechanic & I are wondering what approach to take next. Is it happening as a result of the flush or is the shift sensor adjustable. Any input is appreciated!!

Mine does this all the time, from day 1. I say it is about 3-4 secs. Go from park, to drive, the car will move a little if you hit gas but takes 3-4 secs. Same thing from N to drive etc. I think this was discussed a few times before. As long as we are talking about the same thng, it is a "safety" feature so you dont hurt the transmission.
I had a really bad experience with a flush once upon a time. It turns out if they don't connect the pressure and return lines correctly, start the flush and realize they are backward, you've blown something. I'd added a trans cooler with an electric fan to a truck with about 75000 miles on it and man, with the cooler temps that truck hooked up great! I thought "hey, I'll get it flushed and it will be so much better!"... They hooked up the lines backwards, figured it out and switched them and completed the flush. It never drove the same again. Slipped like crazy in any gear. That doesn't sound like the issue you've got but just figured I'd throw that out there.

I've found this trans to be very sensitive of fluid level. Even a few ounces off can cause issues. I flushed mine 10k miles ago with Amsoil ATF and after adjusting the level a few times it's great.
There is a built in throttle delay when shifting gears. When you experience this delay are you able to rev the engine or does the engine not respond at all?
After the initial flush was done and it started doing this I did bring it back in and they removed some fluid. shortly after that it just started doing the same thing. No rev when it happens, just a pause and then it shifts.

Update, while waiting for my mechanic to return from sunny Florida I decided to test something. This issue continues when I shift through the gears with no pause in between. What I tested is when I go from each gear and pause for a second or two at each the hesitation does not occur. I'm thinking it's the new shift sensor, does anyone know if they're adjustable?
