2010 transmission lag getting annoying...

hi, fairly new to the forum, but i bought a 2010 sr5 4x4 back in dec 09 and have been experiencing a lot of transmission lag at speeds of 5-20 mph where the engine revs up for a second or two before the power goes to the wheels. i know that this has come up on one other post a while back but i am kinda wanting to bring this issue back up to see how many people are experiencing it. took it to the dealer yesterday and the tech drove it with me and agreed that it was excessive but in the end they called it normal operation and to keep an eye on it.
i like the truck a lot and have had a few land cruisers over the years that have been fantastic, but getting a bit frustrated by this, as it is a new 34k truck, etc...
not trying to sound like a winer, just curious if any others are getting annoyed by this.

I only get lag at very low speeds when I am trying to feather the throttle, like trying to park in a tight spot or multi-point turns on a single lane road. I've never experienced it otherwise.
 
Yes, it is very annoying. I still enjoy driving our 2003 4Runner Sport V8 with almost 170,000 miles more than the new Trail Edition. Not just the hesitation, but also the '03 sticks to the road better and drives straighter.
 
:redbrick: I can't believe toyota didn't fix this!!!! We have the same issue with our tacoma's starting with 09's.

And here's the thread with the TSB info that we now have :banana: It's a simple reflash that pretty much fixes the lag, and if you read the thread you'll see just about everyone is happy with it.

Hope you guys get your ECU reflash quick, start complaining!
 
Only thing I have noticed is that when driving from 0-10 mph in 2WD the transmission keeps wanting to shift up and down a lot as my speed varies like it cannot make up it's mind what gear to be in. I attributed this to being primary a high geared vehicle and I am simply just driving to slow.

My fix has been to simply move it into "select shift" and place the truck in 1st or 2nd gear manually. Problem solved.

I'm bringing mine in for the third time with this issue. This time I have a case # from Toyota (Contacted Toyota customer service) and I will drive with a mechanic and I know I will be told it's normal. My 2007 Camry had the same problem until the ECU was reflashed (problem solved). Toyota told me that when enough people complain they will come up with an ECU reflash and to bring the truck in to get it on record. So bring your trucks in and let's get this problem solved!
 
Transmission Lag.

Took th4Runner into Toyota today about hesitation. This time I test drove with the mechanic he said he felt it and then checked for any updates for the computer. None of course so he went in to check the computer to see if any thing was off but of course everything is to spec. Says we must wait for a computer update.I had the same problem with my 07 Camry but when the update was available and they installed it in the Camry it was like night and day!
He says the more people that complain the sooner the computer update will become available if available at all. No complaints no need to update he said.

Do you have to go in to lodge a complaint or is there an online complain link?

I took the car into the dealer just to get it on record and when I was told it's normal I went online to Toyota and Emailed them with my complaint. They gave me a case # in which Toyota contacted my dealer, the dealer called me and we set up an appointment. Good Luck!
 
thanks for the info, im going to call toyota tomorrow and do the same thing, see if the dealer will get it back for another look, and make it known to toyota that there needs to be a fix. thanks, jas
 
i spoke with a case manager at toyota corp a few days ago ( she was very nice about trying to help with the issue) and she said she would talk to the dealer and we will go from there. mine seems to be worse lately and im gonig to take it back again. she did say that the more complaints they have about this specific issue, the more likely there will be work done on a fix for us, so keep up the pressure!

Your complaining about lag from a truck transmission that is derived from one Toyota uses in a 30ton Japanese bus.

Get used to it.

Based on reports from Tacoma owners, it appears that a reflash fixed their problems. So I suspect that same solution would work for the 5th Gen 4Runner.
 
im well aware of the stout nature of certain toyota transmissions, ive put 400,000 miles on two landcruisers that were indeed equipped with "bus transmissions and tractor engines"!, toyota makes fantastic stuff. this lag i speak of is not similar to anything ive experienced with either of my lc's nor any other new 34k car. i know im being picky to some extent but im know toyota can make it better. hopefully we get a computer flash!

I dont see toyota running a new mapping for the ecu. Engine and trans are same minus some addl ponies.

Toyota recognized that there was a problem in Tacoma, and they fixed it with a reflash. Why would they not do the same for the 4Runner?
