2010+ TRD Supercharger

URD is very motivated to launch our supercharger kit. Believe me I love driving it on my truck!!!

When URD markets a forced induction system we provide a complete kit. There are lots of companies out there that rush a forced induction system to market and only ship a partial kit, like NO TUNING or FUEL DELIVERY included in the kit and let the customer fend for himself. This has always proven to be a pathway to disaster. When stuff goes wrong, the maker of the kit just washes his hands as the responsibility is elsewhere. I am not going to do that. It will be a complete kit or nothing.

As you all know I own a second company called iTronix Technologies. That company was formed to make some very advanced engine management system with self-tuning and engine guardian features. The main offering is the UCON-EMS line. We use that in our current supercharger kits.

URD got started by marketing fixes for forced induction system sold by other companies, you know those folks that sell half a kit and let you fend for yourself. We spent a lot of time fixing everyone else's systems and finally decided to launch our own. We were the first to offer a supercharger system for the 4.0L engine and had a working production system in the Toyota/TRD booth as SEMA while TRD had a prototype on an engine stand. We are on our third revision of that system and have pushed it up in power to 540 RWHP so far and going for 600 with a built engine.

What we have learned is that the newer engines are not as durable as the Toyota engines of the past and this requires better and better engine management to keep things nailed down. Make no mistake about it, the newer version of the 1GR engine is less durable than the original version.

Our UCON-EMS is very advanced and it is sampling and controlling a lot of things. This requires a lot of connections. We are talking around 173 connections out of 186. It just is not practical to expect you the customer to cut and splice 173 wire in your ECU harness and expect a good result. You cannot imagine how much time I spend on the phone with people helping people to figure out how to install one of our sims that just PLUGS IN. 173 connections is not going to happen.

So, to do this properly we need the OEM style ECU connectors. We have all but the one that is built into the ECU and I am doing my very best to acquire that last one any way I can. I never imagined that it would prove to be so hard to get that done.

Anyway, that is where we have been and where we are. Progress is being made, but slowly.

Now lately I have had people contact us and pester the hell out of us to ship them a system and let them worry about fueling and tuning. Well there are no kits to ship. Not going to make any until they can be properly completed and sold. I have had people that want just one, or a batch of 10. OK, well, it is all about economy of scale here. You would be amazed at how much the ONE prototype cost to make. It is very expensive to set up CNC machines and fixture to make just ONE of each part, or even 10. Things start making sense at 50-100, but not ONE. You want a copy of what I am running, OK, it can be done, but it will cost.

I hope that clears up the miss information that is floating around. It is what it is and nothing else.

I really want to offer a very nice system and I want to do it the right way.

Yes, it is taking way longer than I ever imagined and if I knew then what I know now, I would of gone a different direction from the start, but every day we get a little bit closer to solving that one last little thing hold up the show.

See you at the East Coast 4Runner Jamboree!!!

Thanks for posting up Gadget.

If all the 5th Gen members who SAY they'll buy the S/C, actually man up and really BUY it, you'll be pleased. We'll see.

So boys, who's going to the East Coast 4Runner Jamboree?

Pretty sure it the price is within my budget, I'm on board.
When I first looked into buying, I had already figured this into the cost but found out it didn't exist.

Guilty as charged! I am one of the individuals that inquired about a one off kit. The impression I got was this was dead in the water due to not being able to recoup R&D costs.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the follow up and additional information Gadget, and I enjoyed our email chat today... sounds like it will be a great system when you get it finalized. Keep us posted on the connector and progress.

I just helped a co-worker install a supercharger on a 2015 Tacoma the other day...

I just checked TRD's website and searched for parts for 2012 4runner...there are 12 new parts listed, all related to a supercharger application including pulleys, drive belts, and a head unit!:hungry:

I just took a look and it listed the supercharger itself. Part no. PTR29-00130.

Suggested retail $5,300.

I hope its real. It looks like some guys on an FJ forum got excited about this (same part number), and it was a false alarm.

Supercharger for 2012-13 FJ listed on TRDUSA.com - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

[Update] Maybe there's something to it; that part was approved by the Cali Air Resources Board on Nov 6, 2013. http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-425-49.pdf

"The 4.0L Supercharger System, PTR29-00130, includes the following main parts: an
Eaton TVS-1320 supercharger with integral intake manifold and intercooler, a 2.4 inch ·
diameter supercharger pulley and a 5.9 inch crankshaft pulley, a by-pass valve, six
replacement fuel injectors rated at 455 cubic centimeters per minute, air filter element, and
a reprogrammed OEM ECU. The stock airflow sensor, air cleaner housing and thermostat
are retained. Boost is limited to a maximum of 7.5 pounds per square inch."

Already posted that document nearly a year ago now. here

Apparently I'm still clicking on this thread for some reason........ I know you can block users, but is there any way to block a thread?

Gadget; thanks for the help on my 1997 4runner SC. I leaned on you then and respect your approach. Please let me know when you have a product. d

Since someone drives me crazy when they bump this thread... it's my turn.

This is the old one from November 2013:
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-425-49.pdf

This looks new - Supercharger (October 2014):
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-425-50.pdf

This looks new too - Intake (October 2014):
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-425-51.pdf

Both of those cover 2010-2015 4Runner.

Did I miss previous conversation on this and bump for no reason? :flame:

Looks promising. Wonder what these will retail for? Hey TRD I'll test one for you.
