2010+ TRD Supercharger

Spoke with TRD senior engineer ,Ted Moncure, who is on the TRD 4.0 dual vvt-i super charger project this evening. On the dyno they are getting 340hp/345ft/lb torque and it's running 8 psi boost.
Are these calculations at the wheel or are they adjusted for drivetrain loss? I only ask because those specs (if measured at the wheels) seem too good to be true.

Most likely ,just like they measured the oem engine......
Maximum output and torque rating are determined using the revised SAE J1349 standard.

He mentioned they got a 30% increase to HP and torque with the same fuel consumption as the non boosted oem engine.

Unfortunately ,it won't be available for another year. He said it takes that long to get it carb certified in all 50 states, tooled up to make the parts and lastly to satisfy mother Toyota in Japan for warranty purposes. They hinted that cost would be about $4200 at the raffle.

They just raffled one off at the Summit tonight and the guy that won will get the first one next summer. It wasn't me....:rockthrow:

Harper, wasn't URD there? .... noone's said a word about them.

Somebody's gotta ask it....

So, I'm guessing the $4,200 does NOT include installation? :)

Anyone want to loan me $4,200 in July of 2013? :thumb3:

Glad to hear about this, I was disappointed when I purchased this there was not one already available. New 4R has already been out for 3 years, they are slow to the game on this one...

They sure are, I would have loved to work it into my purchase price financing to be honest.

Update .... well, sorta

From this Autoblog article, about Toyota at the SEMA show .....

Toyota shows more SEMA stuff, including sportier Avalons that may preview production model

..... I have excerpted this, re the engine in the FJ-S, which I assume will be the same as ours.

"The FJ's 4.0-liter V6 engine gets the full TRD supercharger treatment with the Twin Vortex System (TVS) and a large air-to-water intercooler. The net effect is a 30 percent increase in horsepower to 345, and a torque peak of 340 lb.-ft at 3,500 rpm, a 25 percent improvement. A custom cat-back exhaust gives aural clues to the FJ's increased urge.

The exterior of the FJ-S is enhanced with a front nudge bar and rock rails, and the interior gets a two-tone leather seat treatment with FJ-S logos on the seatbacks and custom floor mats.

The FJ-S can be seen along with eight other new and unique custom-built Toyota vehicles in the Toyota display booth #24801 in Central Hall at the 2012 SEMA Show starting October 30.

That's the same FJ that was at the FJ Summit this year.According to TRD,there's a 5th Gen driving somewhere around LA testing the other prototype SC .:driving:
btw: the FJ Summit 2013 dates have been announced ..7th Annual FJ Summit, July 17-21 2013, Ouray, Co - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum
Maybe I'll install your new SC for you there!

Oh wow I need it! Does a TRD SC installation usually come with an ECU reflash as well? I have seen conflicting reports but in your experience, how severe is the effect on fuel economy? (I know a lot has to do with how you drive).

Not sure about the flash but I don't think so. You would probably get the same or better gas mileage if and that was a big if ,you can keep your foot out of it.It's not like it would be more then a few tenths of a mpg though as there are so many other factors and my lead foot being the leading one. Cooler air from the intercooler is more efficient and takes less fuel to burn!

I am so excited for this, good god Toyota hurry up! cant wait to handle some business :gun6:

It does require premium fuel which is effectively the same as 10% worse fuel mileage. Want those rims and supercharger.
