2010+ TRD Supercharger

So, we have a 12 page thread on a supercharger that doesn't exist?

What else is there to talk about? The aftermarket on these cars is absolutely dreadful, and the cars are so reliable that there aren't a lot of issues to talk about either. Years ago on other forums I participated in, people didn't have the luxury of making threads about minor issues like hatch alignment because they were constantly replacing sensors or transmissions and stuff so kudos to the 4Runner for that!

People have been talking about knives for the last 2 pages in the "What did you do to your 5th gen today?" thread.

This I couldn't argue with: "Off road tires, metal bumpers, skids, rock rails, etc have a much larger impact at the pump IMHO" This though for me is the purpose of the truck.

Absolutely!

On my FJ I had a road armor front bumper, ICON 3" coilover lift, camburg UCA's, rock rails, skids, 33" procomps, the whole deal... All of which had a much larger impact on my MPG than the supercharger with smaller pulley. Pic attached.

Any updated information out there on TRD Supercharger availability for our 4Rs? July 2013 is just around the corner...

A huge bummer, man it makes me mad

It almost makes the whole thing pointless... when the 14' arrives we will be 5 years into the 5th gen. Either design the supercharger alongside the vehicle so it's available early on or just don't offer one.

You mean the 2014 engine that is unchanged?

Seriously, on one hand that gave me hope for a new S/C but it is becoming pointless. 4 years into the car's run and it will be another year before we see the supposed supercharger. The whole thing makes me think sometimes that we are going to see the death of the 4Runner as we know it.

Lolrax - To some degree, I'd have to agree. I feel like my favorite car company (Toyota) has been falling behind the curve on updates lately.

The updates to the T4R are pretty much unremarkable, although I would LOVE to have the ventilated seats here in FL.

Similarly, the recent updates to the 2014 Tundra are widely perceived to be an underwhelming flop- just some sheetmetal and interior upgrades, nothing mechanical. Meanwhile, the competition pulls ahead with more MPG, diesel half-ton options (RAM), better NVH, etc.

None of this means I don't love my Runner, but I do wish they gave me something to be REALLY jealous about with the recent 4Runner update...

I feel confident that it will happen. If for any reason alone, the lovely FJ Cruiser, and that my friends is why we will get a Supercharger. Since our beloved 4Runner shares a engine with the FJ, we will get a supercharger.

Have faith, and think of it this way, when the supercharger is available, it'll be a new vehicle to you with all that newfound power!

I felt the same way once, but not so much anymore.

In addition to Toyota's delays, URD's SC development seems to have stalled as well. That really worries me. I think they would want to beat Toyota to the market. There has been almost no word from them in months.

The thing that makes me upset about it being delayed is that the longer its delayed the longer my daily driver 4Runner racks up the miles.

At what point does an engine have too many miles to throw a SC on it? Our blocks are aluminum right?

If we are talking about a TRD kit I wouldn't worry about miles as the tune will come from Toyota (conservative) and you won't be making much boost. If you keep up on scheduled maintenance you should be fine.

The stipulation being, if TRD ever actually releases the thing...

I just dont think its financially viable, the 4Runner isn't a big seller and what percentage of owners actually go for a S/C. I am sure they are asking if it will even be possible to break even on the R&D costs.

The 3.4 trd kit was hugely successful (sale wise) they sold more than any other TRD blower kit...
You also have to remember this will fit the 4runner as well at the fj cruiser. there is a large market for the kit.

What would the r&d costs of this run Toyota? What years would the supercharger fit? 2010 and newer? If you look up sales figures 2010 and up FJ's and 4runners have sold approx 200,000. How many people would install one? Maybe 1%? That's not a lot of units.

And how much power. I'd be damned if I'd pay 5 grand (including installation) for 30hp and 40 torque.
