2011 4Runner Crossbar removal

I just removed the factory crossbars off my 4Runner and it wasn't difficult. It seems to be about the same process as the 4th gens.

1. Remove the end caps on the roof rack. Best done with a long screwdriver about 2 inches from either end. Pry up once you have it inserted under the cap. It should just pop up.

2. Once the two clip points on the outside are off just roll the entire cover to the inside to unsnap the inside clip points.

3. Once the cover is removed just loosen the caps screwlocks on the bars and pull the crossbars down to the end. The first bar off will push out the rubber grommet that is in the side bars. Remove both bars off the back.

4. Push the grommets back in and snap the covers back on.

Hope that helped.

Here are some pictures to go along with grizzly98's instructions:

Step 1: Clips are marked in red and the spots they attach to on the truck are marked in green.

Here is the rubber grommet mentioned in step 3:

I chose to use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the grommet rather than push them out with the bars.

A little bit of alcohol based hand sanitizer in the tracks of the grommet will make installation much easier.
