i am looking at doing a hid conversion on my le
just lamps and ballasts no projectors ..
question ....
does the 4runner and these lights play well together ??

the reason i ask is i have a 2004 dodge 1 ton and if you use hid's in them they always show a "lamp out error" on the dash ??
does anybody know if the 4runner is the same ???

Please dont get HID on your truck, regular factory halogen headlights are aimed high enough to blind people. You are going to blind people and plus it is ILLEGAL.

I have HID on mine and I was very concerned with blinding ppl, but without any adjustments, the lights point at a pretty good level. (Every truck is different so you might have to adjust yours) Haven't had any high beams or complaints. I've had them on for almost 3 months.

4runner plays well with HID but projects make that nice clean cut. which is hard to tell while driving but when you pull up to something it's obvious.

I love my HID, huge difference in visibility.

O, also I've tested them out driving behind towards, behind, etc my bro and friends. All say it's not bothersome. I've driven behind and around cops and nothing so far. Knock on wood...

i have the xentec kit on mine , foglights have hid's also , no problems with blinding people. no error message either .

... throw on some 10ks

i like the 10's but i think the 8's was a nicer tone .

10K's ... Really?

Wow, you guys seriously need to educate yourselves on HID lighting, particularly regarding color (K) and the effect it has on true light (lumens). Unless, of course, you're just interested in ricing up your ride strictly for looks.

Please spend some study time here: HiDplanet : The Official Automotive Lighting Forum

Don't go over 6,000K. Anything beyond that looks pretty bad.

I don't think you'll have any problems throwing a PNP kit in there, although a projector retrofit would be the best thing to do.

Holy 10k!!! Thats like straight blue. Anything over 6k is overdoing it, plus you lose a lot of light when you go that high.

Technically, 4300K has the "purest" or "whitest" light, eg the most lumens. Above that (higher K), the color is more blue (because it's tinted), and you began to lose lumens (light).

As stated, somewhere around 6K you have actually "upgraded" yourself to LESS light than you had with halogens, just to look cool. If you want blue, save time and money and buy tinted halogen bulbs.

Agreed! I went with 6k, wouldn't go more than that. Warming up looks blue but once it's up, very bright clean white. I'd go with anywhere between 5-6k

tampering with dot approved optics (headlights) is illegal anywhere in the country..
Now, it is not enforced much in majority of states, however.

that said, though, I plan on sticking to my usual 8K in headlights and 2.5K in fogs. I just need to pay off a few lenses I got.. :D

swansong04,

No error codes on like your Dodge when installing an HID kit on your 4 runner. Let me know if you have any questions about choosing an HID kit. I personally am a fan of 4300k for the brightest, whitest, and most functional light output.

Do we seriously need another thread arguing about HID lights? Can't we just merge this with the other threads arguing about HIDs?

Better yet, why don't all you guys who are arguing just make out already and move on with your lives.
