2011 SR5 4WD rear diff question

Hello everyone, just joined today. I'm planing on buying the wife a 2011 4Runner SR5 4WD pretty soon and I ran across this site while doing some research on the rear diff. From the info I have seen so far, the 4WD model is not equipped with a limited-slip rear diff. In the past 10 years I've owned a Blazer and a Dakota and both have been 4WD and equipped with limited slip rear diffs. Is the information that I have seen correct, or is there a possibility that this info is wrong. Doesn't make any sense as to why limited-slip would only be available on the 2WD and trails models.

All 4runners have "electronic LSD". Basically, it is just a fancy name for traction control. So, your future 4runner have 4-wheel traction control, which is equivalent to having LSD on the front and rear differentials. So, your future 4runner will likely be more capable than your previous trucks in terms of traction capability.

None of the 4runner models are offered with a limited slip rear end. You get a factory rear locker with the Trail edition. Basically the same as a limited slip, however a limited slip is always on and does not fully lock the wheels together. The rear locker on the Trail has to be turned off and on and when on the rear differential is fully locked.

The above post is referring to A-trac, I think. This is a very good system however nothing can ever replace a traction adding device in the differential such as a locker, limited slip, or full spool.

Limited slips are great because they are "always on" and provide traction aid when in two wheel drive, four hi, or four low. Lockers obviously provide even better traction since the wheels are truly locked however they are usually noisy on the street and you can feel them when going around corners, etc. I feel like the best of all worlds is the electronic locker that is available in the Trail or an ARB locker that is available aftermarket. This allows you to turn the locker on when you need it, being fully locked, but turn it off when on the street so you do not experience the downfalls of a locked differential.

Hope that helps :)
