2011 Trail - noise from fuel tank

I have a brand new Trail. When I fill up and the engine is running, it sounds like there's a dead cow in the gas tank! mow, mow, mow, mow....
Anybody have this issue?

Well in that case Ill leave a brick on the skinny pedal to suck the new gas in faster.

I noticed the same thing, only thing I can think it may be is some type of valve or something letting out the pressure the gas causes? im not sure though. I have a 2011 sr5

I did that the first time too, I shut the engine off. I figured it would throw a check engine light if I kept on filling it with the engine running.

The first time I heard it i was like "WTF is that?"

The gas tank lid will create an air tide seal to create pressure. Hence when opening the gas tank lid after using half or more of a filled tank for fill up, you hear the air release.

Btw, It is unsafe to fill up while the engine is running and therefore not allowed in many gas stations.

That's nothin, I still see idiots smoking at gas stations right next to signs that read "No Smoking.". I wouldn't do the engine running fill up dude, that's just silly. Besides, the 0.01% chance that you doing that causes a fire, expect to pay the bill for negligence and for any injuries if you're still alive. Read the signs please! Happy time!

While I think the chances of a fire are possibly overstated, filling up with the engine running can screw up the OBD-II system, and cause the engine to throw a code.

the gas doesn't ignite the fumes do. when you are filling up there are fumes present.
don't smoke and fill up and don't sit in the car and wait for it to fill up as the static charge when tou exit the car can ignite the fumes too

When I change my oil with the engine running there's a funny sound too.

So you think its less than a 0.01% chance? 0.009% perhaps?

The noise from the tank is a loud continuous 'mow' noise, like a pump running dry, not the typical air release. Happens every time. Check for yours when it's less than 1/4 tank.

And for the record, I shut the engine off after opening the gas cap and listening to the dying cow, before filling up.
