2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco...FAILED!

Wow, Chevy is getting off easy! I don't think he should have any problem getting a free warranty out of them. I would definitely get that warranty at the very least just in case it's a lemon. We had a new Grand Cherokee that was a lemon and that warranty paid for itself 3 fold before we sold it a year later.

We talked last night. Like you said, we have no idea if this will be a recurrent problem, not just with the PCM but with other electrical stuff. If they keep him in the same vehicle, then he will demand 7/100k extended "Major Guard" warranty for FREE. In addition, he will demand free OnStar for that period...for more peace of mind. Major Guard warranty is apparently very comprehensive...almost bumper-to-bumper type warranty with lots of benefits if you are stuck.

If they give him another vehicle, then he still wants the ext. warranty for free.

He loves the Cruze the 3 days that he had it. Despite the 3 OD gears, he found the 6MT to be a pleasure to row. Very quiet and comfortable ride. Solid. So, he actually does NOT want to buy another brand since he got a good deal on this one...and he actually loves the Cruze!

GM is to call him tomorrow...will keep you guys posted.

Well, he got his Cruze back...so far, working well. Chevy dealer ran a full diagnostic on all the wiring leading to the PCM and found nothing wrong. Apparently, from factory, the wiring harness has "checkpoints" along the way for technicians to access and diagnose...so that techs don't have to tear the car apart to run the wires to check for trouble spots. Nothing else was bad. The motherboard on the PCM was defective. Strange that it became defective after 139 miles of driving...and not sooner. That was the explanation that he got from the Chevy dealer and GM headquarter.

He did get his 6 years/100,000 miles warranty for free. GM is going to check back with him next week to see if he is happy with the car. He could not get GM to throw in OnStar because it is a separate entity and GM has no direct control over it.
