you are confusing HID with blue, you can get HID in very warm temps so it penetrates the same as your factory lights but with more lumens

You're confusing me with someone who cares to argue with you on an old thread.
 
For a better explanation, most HIDs either push white or blue for the vast majority of factory headlights or aftermarket retrofits. Most retrofits I've seen and experienced send a lot of light out, but not in a very collimated manner, which is another criticism of these systems.

Yellow is the color that the human eye sees the most luminance in, which translates into contrast (fyi green is the color we see the most detail in, hence why night vision is tinted green). Contrast allows us to make out a car during a snow storm in front of us. The problem I, and others, have experienced is that white/blue can tend to create a mirror effect in dust/snow/rain, where breaking that mirror/reflector effect is key. In fact I ONLY turn my top light bar on when I'm the lead vehicle in a convoy as the dust coming up over the hood light creates a white out. Since someone wants to throw the cost of my lights back in my face (tough shit), if I knew I'd go to the Baja's I'd have tri-wired my setup for dual control, which for my top light bar would have let me fire only my yellow lights on my ONX6 bar.

This same contrast, and the ability to use it, also helps a vehicle while tearing ass through silt beds. Most production cars with HIDs still have yellow tinted lights for fogs. I'm sure there are some exceptions. There's some pretty shitty halogen lights out there, I'll admit it. But there's also a reason why almost all factory HIDs and halogen auxiliaries.

I work in tv/film/photography, and some of us are good at our jobs, and have eyes that are attuned to color temperature and the different qualities relating to light.

If HIDs are your bag, go for it!

I love that "normal person" comment LOL. I was gonna quote it too but I thought I'd stay classy. This whole site is about modifying our trucks. I'm sure Toyota didn't want us lifting these things either. Nothing more unsafe than changing your centre of gravity and increasing roll-over potential, but hey, screw those clear corners!

Lots of information (real with tests and everything, not like opinion) out there on lights in fog, snow and sand and dust.

Anyway, [MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION] is correct according to the data I have read. From a practical real world experience, I have driven in snow, fog and dust (at different times in different parts of the world) that any light beyond low power fogs or park lights was ineffective. It just hits the material and reflects back. The more you throw at it the worse it is. Fog lights mounted low is best. NVG is better lol.

So its exactly like I said, you are confusing HID with blue.

You can get HID in the same temps as the factory lights, 4300K lights are not blue.

Also, you are misinformed about why blue lights are bad. Its not because of any physics characteristics, its because of how your eye pperceives blue light. There are empirical studies that show that blue temp lights are more distracting in wet condition but its false to say that HID lights scatter more or are worse in dust.

Toyota not putting HID lights in the 4Runner has nothing to do with performance in dust, in fact HID driving lifts are common in performance off-road trucks they just aren't running 5000k+ lighting.

Going with warm HID will improve your visibility

You are also confusing HID and blue lights, y9u can get HID lights <5000k in temp

Did you actually read this? I don't think you did.

This is about diffraction based on size and rate of particles and how the impact diffraction. Since you are not changing the reflective properties of your headlights those factors remain constant, quite simply this has nothing to do with the incorrect claim that HID lights scatter more. The results in figure 1 are variable with regards to optical axis which you are not changing when you replace the terrible factory halogen bulbs with HID bulbs. this is comparing how fog lights react through different conditions (dust, snow, rain)

there is nothing inherent about HID light that makes it scatter more. what is true is that blue light causes distractions because of scotopic sensitivity because of how your eyes work but you can get HID lights in warm temps the same color as the factory lights.

Champ, I get what you're talking about. I know what color temperature is, some of us deal with it on a daily basis shooting the commercials you watch and the tv shows you stream.

The majority of HIDs however push higher on the kelvin scale on average. But even on warmer temperature lights you then run into this pesky image of light scatter which is ALSO offensive to the eye. I have seen only a few vehicles with HIDs from the factory that are built properly that use HIDs properly and are of a color temperature that's not less than useful for the driver or offensive to oncoming traffic.

jesus christ, buy whatever the **** lights you want, but if you need to keep running your suck against me you have more free time on your hands than I have lately.
