2014 4Runner Not Loading SMS

Hi All,

I recently got a 2014 4Runner with EnTune and I'm trying to get it to load my text messages and recognize when I get a text. I've paired the device just fine and have used it to stream audio and even make phone calls. The only issue is that my message list won't load nor will it recognize when I get a text.

My phone is an LG Nexus 4 and is fully compatible with everything for EnTune. I've read around and people said to delete the messages as it seems like too many messages may be an issue. I did that and it still won't work. I un-paired the device and paired it again hoping it would work. When I did that it said EnTune wanted access to the messages and I gave it access but it still wouldn't work.

I removed all but my default chat message app just in case it couldn't realize which one I had. I've pretty much given up on trying to do it myself so figured I'd reach out for help.

Not sure how on your phone specifically but I had the same issue on my 14 and it was a setting on the phone that fixed it, not within Entune system. It's a messaging setting that let's the phone broadcast notifications. Hope that helps you know where to go looking.
 
I've tried all of that pairing, unpairing, and deleting. I'll see if there is anything on the phone's default messaging app that may restrict cell broadcasting.

i had this problem earlier this week with my s5. i deleted it from the paired devices on my phone and truck and then removed the app to be sure on the phone. downloaded and paired and sms is working again.
 
sometimes if you have way to many stored messages, it will fail in the transfer and then it will not work until the next off/on cycle of the vehicle.
 
I'm in the same boat and interested in what you figure out. I have a '14 TE with Entune that has never figured out how to show messages from my iPhone 5.

I tried looking at the cell broadcast thing someone suggested but I couldn't find anything in the default message app concerning that. I sent an e-mail to entune so hopefully they can help.
 
Mine had that issue and it seemed to fix itself after a while.

One day I noticed that it stopped reading my text messages so I tried re-pairing the phone to the entune, reinstalling the entune app, etc. with no luck...then a week or so later it started working again.
 
Don't know if this will help you since I have an iPhone 5s. Messages weren't coming through to my system until I enabled alerts in notification center. Don't know if there's anything similar on your Android. It has worked flawlessly which has really surprised me. Good luck.
 
I noticed that mine stopped reading the messages again, I'll probably mess with it later in the week to try and figure out what happened.
 
Does the system have to have entune to receive texts? I have the CDN version with no entune and I can't get any texts.
 
SMS not working on 4runner 2014

I just bought a 2014 4runner this week.
I have been reading the blogs about suggestions to get SMS to work. I have iphone 6, have entune installed. I tried to unpair phone, uninstall entune and start over. I even deleted as many messages as possible but still no luck with SMS. Any suggestions?
 
I had the same problem, luckily the fix was quite simple. Go to the iPhone Settings, Bluetooth, tap the Info icon next to 4Runner device, and set the Show Notifications toggle to on

Having used both iPhone and android with the entune...In my experience with android, the entune will be able to pull up new messages as well as messages already on your phone. With the iPhone though, I only receive the notification for a message that was incoming while connected to entune. With the iPhone, entune does not pick up messages already on the phone.
