05 gas tank and evap issues.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to track down an evap issue on my 05 4runner with the 4.7. It's currently giving like 15 evap codes, but I smoke tested it and found out the vent valve was stuck open. No big deal, I dropped the $350 on a new charcoal cannister with the vent and pump all included. It worked for about 6 months and then all the codes came back, I smoked it again and its showing the same vent valve is stuck open.

Here is where I need your help. One time when it snowed I cleared the codes to get traction control back temporarily, when I went to work on something else a couple days later I noticed that gas had dripped down the inner fender area from the fuel filler neck. My theory, which I've heard elsewhere, is that the gas flows through the vent valve and ruins it. After a bunch of research I found that most cars have a float check valve on the tank vent to keep gas from being sucked out of the tank when the car does the evap test after 5 hours sitting. That being said, I can't confirm that 4th gen 4runners have that, I found it for 3rd gens, I looked on the dealer diagrams and the tank includes the vent port as an assembly, so its not available as a separate part.

Do any of you have a 4th gen tank lying around to check if there is a float/check valve built into the pink evap vent port? Or, do is there another place I should be looking?

I don't have a tank laying around, sorry. But I have a picture in my picture files and it's entitled; "Filler Overflow Toyota P0455 Evap Fail"
The picture is of a small black canister that looks like an in-line fuel filter that's under the hood, driver side, like it's plumbed to intake, or fuel rail. You might see if you can pull up that youtube.

I just checked my notes on that picture: "Filter for evap purge system. Short hose toward engine connects to purge valve. If you pull the filter with short hose off the purge valve and hear it "clucking" in rapid succession, with engine running, it's working. Unplug the electrical connector and it should go quiet if working properly".

Yes, that's the purge valve, I previously confirmed it is working properly.
