2014 4Runner TE Super White - Let the fun begin

I picked up my 2014 Toyota 4Runner TE Super White last night. Got rid of my 2010 Tundra Rock Warrior for it. I am extremely happy so far. I have been learning a lot from this forum on mods and such and appreciate everyone's input. Here is what I have going so far...

Tires: 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country ATII (put them on this am) Why does Toyota put a highway tire on this rig? :ohwell:

Wheels: KMC XD 800 Misfit 17x9 (Ordered, will be here monday)

Rack: Gobi Stealth with ladder, wind deflector and stealth tool box (ordered today... please come soon)

This is just the beginning and can't wait to continue my build.

Good choice on the white TE.

Most buyers will drive these on the highway. They are also reasonably capable for where people would take a stock 4Runner offroad. Plus, tires are reasonably cheap and easy to replace with what YOU want rather than what offroad tire the factory thinks you'll want.

I'm also jealous of where you live. I love camping and backpacking in Montana.

True, I've just had way too many bad experiences with 4ply tires in the mountains of Montana haha. The tire shop did give me $400 trade for the stock tires so that was nice.

I also love camping/backpacking in Montana and can't wait for this 4Runner to take me to some great places!

That is good news but is still a long time haha. I struggled waiting 10 days for the 4runner to come in... But, I shouldn't be needing the rack within the next month so all is good.

congrat buddy. i recently picked up a super white t.e. prem. too. its so awesome. i cant wait to see what you do to it. i plasti dip my rims, roof rack, and bumper trims already. look so much better imo.

I plan on plastidipping (is that a word?) the bumper trims as well. Never though about doing it to the rims. I ordered new matte black rims instead.

I havn't done much research on plasti dip yet but is this something you do yourself or do you take it in and have it done?
 
i did it myself. so easy and very fun to do.

That's great! Did you dip, brush or spray?

Did you do the same for the wheels? I assume you had to take them off the vehicle to do that? Is it holding up well on the wheels?

Sorry for all the questions but this stuff seems to open up a whole lot of fun options.
 
Do we know for sure if the top of the vehicle is the same on the '14? I assume nothing would have changed including the roof rack attachments but hadn't seen for sure anywhere. Been looking into getting the same rack so just wanted to double check. Congrats on the new ride!!

I personally don't know but I bought the rack from trailduty.com and they list the rack as the 2010-14 4Runner so I would assume they did their research! They have a great promo going on right now too (at least for a few more days)
 
nope, didnt have to take wheels off at all. just make sure you use plastic bags to cover your rotors and calipers. if you're not comfortable, i think you should spray on something that you can test on. ;-)

Thought I'd jump in here. Just picked up a 2014 SR5 premium and am considering Plasti Dip for the wheels.

Anyway, I did this on my Accord when I bought it in June '13 and six months later, many car washes, snow, road salt, etc. it's holding up fantastically. Personally, I would take the wheels off the 4R in order to ensure best coverage and that the wheels are completely clean before starting. There's a video on YouTube where a guy used simple 4"X6" note cards to place in the lip between the rim and the tires to prevent overspray onto the tires. I did this as well, very simple, cheap and highly effective. Home Depot and Lowes carry the stuff or buy on amazon.

I bought some plasti dip today. I plan on doing my emblems white and the silver bumper trim black.

I am now trying to figure out if I want to plasti dip my rims black instead of spending $800 on new rims (they have been ordered but not paid for yet). Decisions decisions haha.

I also bought a space heater for my garage so I could plasti dip now instead of waiting for Montana to get to 70 degree weather :)
